Monarchs’ Roncketti, Delapp
selected to play in East Coast
Bowl
Second straight season that
Methodist is represented in
postseason All-Star game
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
For the second straight season,
Methodist Monarch football will
have representation in the East
Coast Bowl. Last season,
offensive guard Jonathan Byrd
became the first Monarch to play
in the postseason all-star game.
This season, quarterback Chris
Roncketti and offensive tackle
Billy Delapp will participate.
Both Roncketti and Delapp will
be on the North roster which
consists of top players from the
NCAA Division I-AA, II, III and
NAIA levels from all different
regions. The fifth-East Coast
Bowl, which is co-sponsored by
the City of Petersburg, Va., and
the National Football
Foundation/College Hall of Fame,
is Saturday at 12 p.m. in
Petersburg, Va.

Monarchs’ Roncketti selected USA
South Offensive Player of the
Year
18 Methodist
players selected All-Conference
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
Fresh off a banner season in
which he helped lead the
Methodist Monarchs to a share of
the 2005 USA South Athletic
Conference football
championship, Methodist
quarterback Chris Roncketti was
selected as the USA South
Offensive Player of the Year on
Thursday. It is the second
conference postseason honor for
Roncketti. He was also selected
Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference Offensive Rookie of
the Year as a freshman in 2002.
In addition, the Monarchs had a
total of 18 players on the 2005
All-USA South team. It’s the
best representation yet for
Methodist on the All-Conference
team.

Monarchs’ Roncketti, Lawrence,
Breen selected CoSIDA Academic
All-District
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
Throughout the 2005 season,
Chris Roncketti, Daryl Lawrence
and Rhyan Breen have made
headwaves on the football field
for the Methodist Monarchs. On
Monday, the trio was honored for
their accomplishments off the
field. Roncketti, Lawrence and
Breen were each selected to the
first team CoSIDA (College
Sports Information Directors of
America) Academic All-District 3
for the College Division. By
being selected first team
Academic All-District, Roncketti,
Lawrence and Breen are now
eligible for CoSIDA Academic
All-American, which will be
released next month.

South Offensive Player of the
Week
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
For the fourth time this 2005
season, Chris Roncketti received
the top offensive weekly honor
in the USA South Athletic
Conference. On Monday, the
Methodist quarterback was
honored as the USA South
Offensive Player of the Week for
his stellar performance in the
Monarchs’ season-ending 35-0
rout over Shenandoah.

blank Shenandoah 35-0 for first
conference title
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
Every athletic program at
Methodist College has at least
one championship banner hanging
in the Riddle Center except
football. However, that changed
on Saturday. With 14 seniors
donning the green and gold
uniforms for the final time, the
Methodist Monarchs wrapped up
the 2005 regular season with a
convincing 35-0 shutout over
visiting Shenandoah at Monarch
Stadium. The victory, coupled
with Christopher Newport’s 44-7
rout at Ferrum, gives the
Monarchs a share of the 2005 USA
South Athletic Conference
championship – the first
football championship in program
history.

Still in the hunt! Monarchs roll
past Greensboro 45-21
GREENSBORO, N.C. –
In most of Methodist’s road
games this season, the Monarchs
have had to pull off comebacks
in the waning moments to
prevail. That wasn’t the case on
Saturday as Methodist took
control early and cruised to an
impressive 45-21 USA South
Athletic Conference victory over
Greensboro at Greensboro’s
Jamieson Stadium. Methodist
improves to 7-2 overall and 5-1
in the USA South. The Monarchs
still have an outside shot a
possibly sharing the USA South
title.

Football Offensive, Defensive
Player of the Week honors
FAYETTEVILLE,

The Methodist Monarchs swept the
USA South Athletic Conference
weekly football honors on
Tuesday. Quarterback Chris
Roncketti was selected as the
USA South Offensive Player of
the Week, while linebacker Max
Pope earned USA South Defensive
Player of Week honors. This is
the second straight week that
Roncketti has earned the
offensive honor, and the third
time this season. Pope earned
the defensive honor for the
first time this season.

Another record-setting
performance by Roncketti as
Monarchs rally 28-24
MARYVILLE, Tenn. –
As if last week’s record-setting
performance against Christopher
Newport wasn’t enough, Chris
Roncketti decided to make it one
better this week. The Methodist
senior quarterback enjoyed his
second straight record-setting
performance as the Methodist
Monarchs rallied late for a
28-24 USA South Athletic
Conference victory at Maryville.
The victory not only clinches a
winning season for the Monarchs,
who improve to 6-2 overall and
4-1 in the USA, but Methodist
remains alive in the race for
the USA South championship.

the Monarchs to a thrilling
come-from-behind victory at
Averett. On Monday, he was
honored again for his
record-setting performance over
the weekend against rival
Christopher Newport.

Record-setting day for Roncketti
as Monarchs shock Christopher
Newport 35-28
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
Chris Roncketti and the rest of
the Methodist senior football
class had one final shot at
knocking off USA South Athletic
Conference rival Christopher
Newport on Saturday. Unlike the
three previous seasons, they
would not be denied. Behind a
record-setting performance by
Roncketti, the Monarchs finally
broke through against the
visiting Captains with a
thrilling 35-28 Homecoming
victory at Monarch Stadium. It
was the Monarchs’ first victory
over Christopher Newport in five
tries, and it keeps Methodist in
the USA South title hunt at 5-2
overall and 3-1 in the USA
South.

Monarch rally
falls short against Ferrum in
42-37 defeat
ROCKY MOUNT, Va. -
There was never any quit in the
Methodist Monarchs in their USA
South Athletic Conference
showdown in Friday night against
rival Ferrum. However, the
valiant Methodist effort came up
just short as Methodist dropped
a 42-37 decision against Ferrum
at Cy Dillon Stadium at Rocky
Mount High School. The defeat
snaps a four-game winning streak
for Methodist, which slips to
4-2 overall and 2-1 in the USA
South.
Ferrum, meanwhile, remains
undefeated overall at 7-0 and
4-0 in the USA South.

Never say Never! Monarchs,
Roncketti rally past Averett
29-28
DANVILLE, Va. –
Chris Roncketti was determined
not to let his Methodist
Monarchs drop their USA South
Athletic Conference showdown at
Averett on Saturday. With that
in mind, he literally put his
team on his shoulders when it
counted. The senior quarterback
paced Methodist to 20 points in
the fourth quarter as the
Monarchs rallied late to prevail
29-28 over Averett at Cougar
Stadium. The victory is the
fourth straight for Methodist,
which improves to 4-1 overall.
More importantly, Methodist
remains in the heart of the USA
South race undefeated at 2-0.

Hill, Roncketti propel Monarchs
to 55-21 rout over Emory & Henry
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
There was no shortage of offense
on Saturday for the Methodist
Monarchs as they made it three
straight victories with a
convincing 55-21 rout over
visiting Emory & Henry at
Monarch Stadium. The 55 points
were the second-most in a game
in the history of football at
Methodist, and it was also the
first time in this series
between Methodist and Emory &
Henry that the home team has won
a game. The Monarchs improve to
3-1 overall, while Emory & Henry
drops to 0-4 overall.

received a weekly honor.
Cornerback Antwin Shuford was
selected as the USA South
Defensive Rookie of the Week.
Shuford becomes the second
Methodist player to receive a
weekly honor in the USA South.

Fourth-quarter heroics trigger
Methodist’s 31-20 triumph over
North Carolina Wesleyan
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
The Methodist Monarchs showed no
panic entering the fourth
quarter behind by three points
against visiting rival North
Carolina Wesleyan. Instead, they
rose to the occasion. Sparkled
by fourth quarter touchdown runs
by Mike Hill and Chuck Howard,
the Monarchs rallied in the
final period for a 31-20 victory
over North Carolina Wesleyan at
Monarch Stadium. It was the USA
South Athletic Conference opener
for both teams. Methodist
improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0
in the USA South, while North
Carolina Wesleyan slips to 1-3
overall and 0-1 in the USA
South.

Monarchs’ Hill selected USA
South Football Offensive Player
of the Week
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
The USA South Athletic
Conference released its second
weekly honors for football on
Monday, and Methodist’s Mike
Hill was selected as the USA
South Offensive Player of the
Week. Hill becomes the first
Monarch to receive a weekly
football honor from the
conference this season. A
sophomore tailback from
Lillington, N.C., Hill enjoyed
his best game yet in a Methodist
uniform on Saturday against
Guilford. He rushed for a
career-high 181 yards on 21
carries and scored on touchdown
runs of 40 and 59 yards.

Hill, Roncketti shine as
Monarchs rout Guilford 42-25
GREENSBORO, N.C. –
Tailback Mike Hill and
quarterback Chris Roncketti were tabbed as the focal
points for the Methodist Monarch offense for the
2005 season, and on Saturday, they both showed why
that’s accurate. Hill and Roncketti provided for a
combination of 382 yards of total offense as
Methodist rolled to an impressive 42-25 victory at
in-state rival Guilford. It’s the second straight
victory for Methodist over the Quakers, and the
Monarchs improve to 1-1 overall on the 2005 season.

Salisbury
SALISBURY, Md. – Quarterback Chris
Roncketti enjoyed one of his best passing games yet
as a Methodist Monarch on Saturday. But the Monarchs
came up short in their 2005 season opener at
Salisbury, falling 48-28 to the 15th-ranked Sea
Gulls at Sea Gull Stadium. It marks the first time
since the 2001 season that Methodist has dropped its
