USA South Announces All-Conference Football Awards
The Monarchs place four players on the first team
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- 
The USA South released the 2006 All-Conference Teams on Thursday afternoon.  The Monarchs placed eight players on the first and second teams with three others named honorable mentions.  The team finished the 2006 season last Saturday with a win against Shenandoah to finish 4-6.  release

Monarchs Close Out 2006 With 9-7 Win Over Shenandoah
Junior Mike Hill leads the offense with 121 yards rushing
WINCHESTER, VA-  The Methodist football team was able to finish their 2006 season on a positive note with a 9-7 win over Shenandoah University on Saturday.  Both teams have had a tough season this fall, but the Monarchs prevailed to improve to 4-6 overall and 2-5 in the USA South while Shenandoah fell to 2-8 overall and 1-6 in the conference.  release

Monarchs Fall to Greensboro 17-13
Senior Chris Gauntlett leads the team with 11 tackles and one interception
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Monarchs were hoping to gain a win in their last home game in the 2006 season, but Greensboro put a stop to things early defeating Methodist 17-13.  The Monarchs fall to 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the USA South while Greensboro moves to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in the USA South.  release

Freshman Brandon Parks receives first selection this season
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- 
The USA South has announced their athletes of the week for all fall sports.  The conference gives an award for Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for each sport active during the week.  release

Maryville Comes Back to Defeat Monarchs 30-26
Senior George Sands runs for 114 yards on returns
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Monarchs knew going into the game on Saturday that Maryville has a history of coming back from deficits.  The Monarchs were leading 17-7 and 20-17 during the game, but the Scots finished strong to win 30-26.  The Monarchs fall to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the USA South while Maryville improves to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the conference.  release

Monarchs Fall to Christopher Newport Captains 21-0
Sophomore Antwin Shuford leads defense with 12 tackles
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Christopher Newport defense put a stop to the Monarch offense holding Methodist to 139 yards compared to the Captains' 360 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Christopher Newport scored a touchdown in each of the final three quarters to win 21-0.  The Monarchs fall to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the USA South while Christopher Newport improves to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference.  release

Methodist Wins 24-14 Over Rival Ferrum
Offensive line holds strong to give Monarchs 296 yards rushing
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Monarchs found themselves down at halftime 14-7, but came back in the second to shutout the Ferrum Panthers and score 17 unanswered points of their own to win 24-14.  The Monarchs move to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the USA South while Ferrum falls to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference.  release

Averett Comes Back to Defeat Monarchs 28-25
Mike Hill scores three touchdowns in loss
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Monarchs kicked off first and Averett's 73 yard drive on their first possession turned into their first touchdown of the game.  With a Cougar touchdown in each quarter, the Monarchs improved offense was not enough.  The Monarchs fall to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference while Averett moves to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference.  release

Monarch Defense Stifles Emory & Henry Wasps
Daryl Lawrence leads defense with 12 tackles and two sacks
EMORY, VA-  The Monarchs kicked off first allowing Emory & Henry minus 7 yards on their possession only to receive the ball and score a touchdown on their own first possession.  The Monarchs led as much as 16-0 before winning 16-8.  Both the Monarchs and the Wasps move to 2-2 as a result.  release

Monarchs Lose Lead to NC Wesleyan Bishops
Mike Hill rushes for more than 100 yards in third straight game
ROCKY MOUNT, NC-  The Monarchs went into the third quarter at NC Wesleyan leading 9-7, but the Bishops came back and made it 9-15 on the first drive of the fourth quarter to win it.  Methodist falls to 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in the USA South while NC Wesleyan moves to 2-2 and 1-0 in the conference.  release

Monarchs Earn First Win of 2006 Against Chowan
Mike Hill rushes for 141 yards and 3 touchdowns
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  It took a few possessions for Methodist to work out the kinks, but with 2:31 remaining in the first quarter, the Joseph Matthews made a 9 yard run for the first touchdown of the game and the Monarchs never looked back winning 31-7 against the Chowan Hawks.  Methodist improves to 1-1 while Chowan falls to 0-3.  release

Methodist Comes Up Short Against Guilford
Junior Mike Hill rushed for 82 yards in loss
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Methodist Monarchs opened their season with a 11-27 loss to long-time opponent Guilford College.  The Quakers are the only team the Monarchs have played every season of football and now stand at 6-12 all-time.  Guilford moves to 2-0 on the season while Methodist falls to 0-1. release

Weekly coach's show with head coach Jim Sypult
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  Each week Methodist football coach Jim Sypult will appear on "Inside Methodist Football" to air Wednesdays at 6 pm.  Sypult will discuss the previous result and the upcoming game for his team.  This week kicks off the 2006 season with Sypult giving a rundown on his expectations for this season as Methodist faces Guilford on Saturday.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  Coach Jim Sypult was happy with a share of the conference championship last season, but not satisfied. “My dream is to be among the elite in NCAA Division III football to win it all from the conference championship, to playoffs, to the national championship,” he said.  release

Methodist releases 2006 football schedule
Six home games highlight season as Monarchs aim to defend USA South Championship
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Methodist head football coach Jim Sypult released the Monarchs' 2006 football schedule on Wednesday. Methodist, which is coming off a banner 8-2 season in 2005 with a share of the USA South Athletic Conference championship, has six games on the slate for the upcoming season. It starts with the season opener on Sept. 9 against in-state rival Guilford at 1 p.m. Homecoming is set for Nov. 4 against Greensboro. Click here for the 2006 Methodist football schedule.
