Monarch football players report for 2005 preseason camp

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
Methodist head football coach Jim Sypult welcomed back approximately 125 players to campus on Tuesday, signaling the start of the 2005 Methodist football season with the beginning of preseason camp. The Monarchs are coming off a 7-3 season in 2004, which included finishing third in the USA South Athletic Conference.

Methodist is picked third in the 2005 USA preseason poll.

The Monarchs checked into their dorm rooms on Tuesday, followed by an evening dinner and the first official team meeting. Preseason camp will last approximately two weeks before the rest of the student body returns to campus. The Monarchs will have conditioning and skill tests on Wednesday, followed by the first official practice on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

Methodist’s first full gear practice will be on Monday (Aug. 15), and the first intrasquad scrimmage is set for Aug. 18. The Monarchs open the 2005 season at Salisbury on Sept. 3, and the first home game is Sept. 24 against North Carolina Wesleyan at Monarch Stadium.
