November 10, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC - After a slow start this season, the Monarchs finished the season with a three game winning streak after a 27-20 victory over Shenandoah. Methodist improves to 4-6 overall and 4-3 in the USA South this season while Shenandoah finishes 2-8 overall and 2-5 in the conference. The Monarchs jumped out early after senior Jonathan Mularski's 36-yard kickoff return landed the Monarchs on their own 46-yard line. Senior Mike Hill finished the Monarchs' drive with a 35-yard touchdown run. Freshman Mario Miralles' extra point put Methodist up 7-0. Shenandoah came back and scored on the ensuing possession, but Methodist senior Sean Merritt blocked the extra point attempt to maintain the Methodist lead 7-6. The Monarchs countered and drove back down the field scoring with a 6-yard touchdown run by Hill. Miralles' hit the extra point again for the 14-6 lead after the first quarter. On the first play of the second quarter, Shenandoah picked up a Methodist fumble to take it back and score a touchdown. With the extra point, the Hornets closed the lead to 14-13. The rest of the quarter ended without a score for Methodist to hold the lead at halftime. Late in the third quarter, sophomore Brandon Parks found senior Patrick Doleman for the 13-yard touchdown pass. Miralles' kick was good for the 21-13 lead. Methodist would score again early in the fourth quarter on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Parks to freshman Brian Hopkins to increase the lead. Miralles gave Methodist the 27-13 cushion. With 50 seconds left in the game, Shenandoah quarterback Vern Lunsford connected on an 81-yard pass to put the Hornets in scoring territory and went 3-for-4 on the drive to score for Shenandoah. The Monarchs took over after the extra point and ran the clock out to win 27-20. Parks threw 13-for-18 for 182 yards passing while Hill led in rushing with 140 yards.
