November 11, 2006 Neither team moved the ball well with only one touchdown scored all day. In the first quarter, the teams combined for 92 yards of offense. On fourth down and one to go in the second quarter, the Monarchs decided to punt. Senior Jordan Allen's punt was blocked by Mike Guerra and recovered in the end zone by Shenandoah player Anthony Hayes for the touchdown. Eric Lefebvre's extra point was good to give the Hornets the 7-0 lead. The Monarchs came back on the next possession and moved the ball down into Shenandoah territory. Freshman quarterback Brandon Parks started with an 18-yard run to the 50-yard line before junior Mike Hill found space for a 17-yard run. Parks and Hill combined to run up to the Shenandoah 20. On third and eight, Parks found senior wide receiver Chuck Howard for a pass completion and the first down. Hill picked up two more yards before senior kicker Patrick Larkin came on to attempt the 26 yard field goal. His kick was good to decrease the Shenandoah lead to 7-3. The half ended 7-3 and the third quarter started with the Monarchs ready to turn up their defense and mount their comeback. Both teams exchanged possessions before the senior Blake Farrell intercepted Hornets quarterback Blake Derby's pass at the Shenandoah 30-yard line. The Monarchs took over with 5:10 remaining in the third quarter and Hill picked up 25 yards before a holding penalty pushed them back to the Shenandoah 22-yard line and Larkin came on for another field goal. The 39-yard attempt was good and the Monarchs moved to within one with 3:07 left in the quarter. The defense held Shenandoah to 12 yards in the third quarter. Shenandoah received a Monarch punt to gain possession in the fourth quarter but the Monarchs held them back before freshman Brian Leary intercepted another Derby pass at the Shenandoah 31-line. The Monarch offense returned and Hill took the ball and ran with it picking up 34 yards. A Methodist penalty had the Monarchs on the 10-yard line when Larkin came back on to hit a 27-yard field goal and give the Monarchs the 9-7 lead. There was still 7:50 left in the game and Shenandoah would have two more possessions to try to win it. On the first possession, Kyle Smith and Michael Green came up with two big sacks to force the punt. Shenandoah got the ball back on their own 14-yard line with 2:13 remaining. They pushed the ball into Methodist territory, but the Monarch defense held onto their position. Senior Erik Spong sacked quarterback Twaun Rhodes for a loss of 13 yards before Rhodes had two completions to reach the Methodist 12-yard line. Methodist called a timeout and held Rhodes back for no gain on 1-10. There was an incomplete pass to set up 3-10. Lefebvre had a 30-yard field goal attempt with 12 seconds remaining in the game to win it, but his kick went wide left to give the Monarchs the 9-7 victory. Hill finished with 27 carries for 121 yards while Parks threw 4-8 for 20 yards. Daryl Lawrence led the defense with 9 tackles including 3 for a loss of 15 yards as well as a sack. Head coach Jim
Sypult will wrap up the 2006 season on his final
