Monarchs’ Shuford
selected USA South Football
Defensive Rookie of the Week
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
The USA South Athletic
Conference issued its weekly
football awards on Monday, and
for the second time in three
weeks, a Methodist Monarch
received a weekly honor.
Cornerback Antwin Shuford was
selected as the USA South
Defensive Rookie of the Week.
Shuford becomes the second
Methodist player to receive a
weekly honor in the USA South.
Sophomore tailback Mike Hill was
Offensive Player of the Week
following the Monarchs’ 42-25
victory over Guilford on Sept.
10.
In Methodist’s thrilling 31-20
victory over USA South rival
North Carolina Wesleyan on
Saturday, Shuford recorded four
solo tackles and two assists for
six total tackles. He also
recorded a pass breakup. For the
season, Shuford, a 6-foot-3, 195
freshman from Fayetteville,
N.C., ranks third on the team in
tackles with 19, and he has one
quarterback sack and one pass
interception.
In addition, he is ranked 14th
in the USA South in tackles.
Methodist (2-1) plays host to
Emory & Henry on Saturday at 1
p.m. at Monarch Stadium.
