Monarchs’ Shuford selected USA South Football Defensive Rookie of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
The USA South Athletic Conference issued its weekly football awards on Monday, and for the second time in three weeks, a Methodist Monarch received a weekly honor. Cornerback Antwin Shuford was selected as the USA South Defensive Rookie of the Week.

Shuford becomes the second Methodist player to receive a weekly honor in the USA South. Sophomore tailback Mike Hill was Offensive Player of the Week following the Monarchs’ 42-25 victory over Guilford on Sept. 10.

In Methodist’s thrilling 31-20 victory over USA South rival North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday, Shuford recorded four solo tackles and two assists for six total tackles. He also recorded a pass breakup. For the season, Shuford, a 6-foot-3, 195 freshman from Fayetteville, N.C., ranks third on the team in tackles with 19, and he has one quarterback sack and one pass interception.

In addition, he is ranked 14th in the USA South in tackles.

Methodist (2-1) plays host to Emory & Henry on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Monarch Stadium.
