Golf teams to compete for the Walnut
and Bronze
Women try for nineteenth national title; men go for
number ten
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- This weekend the 2005-06 school year
will be over for most Methodist students. For the
men's and women's golf teams who will compete in the
national tournament next week, the year is just getting
underway.
The NCAA announced yesterday that both Methodist men's and
women's squads have been invited to compete for the national
title and the walnut and
bronze trophy given to the winner. For Methodist,
those trophies will look real nice next to the twenty-seven
others sitting in the trophy case in the Riddle Center foyer
on Methodist's campus.
The women's squad will
compete for their ninth straight title and nineteenth
overall. The championships will be conducted May 9-12
at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills,
Florida.
The men will try for their tenth overall title and first
since 1999. The championships will be held May 8-11,
at the Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln, Nebraska.
