NEWPORT NEWS, VA- The Methodist men's basketball team used a strong second half to defeat Newport News Apprentice 74-67. The teams were tied at 33 at halftime, but the Monarchs converted free throws late to win by seven. Methodist improves to 3-1 this season while Apprentice drops to 1-3.

Apprentice took the lead first in the second half, building up a six point lead with 14:09 to go in the game. The Monarchs started chipping away and tied the game at 49 on a 3-pointer from McDade with 10:07 on the clock. The Builders took a 64-63 lead with 1:22 to go on two free throws from Jason Arrington, but Methodist called the timeout and junior A.B. Lehmann sank a 3-pointer to take the 66-64 lead. Methodist finished the game shooting 8-for-10 from behind the free throw line to seal the 74-67 win.
