FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Monarchs came within four early in the second half, but Averett took over late in the half to win 71-52. Methodist falls to 9-12 overall and 4-5 in the USA South, while Averett improves to 15-6 this season and 6-3 in the conference. While the Cougars took the lead early, Methodist senior Brandon Williams tied the game at 11 with 12:46 to go in the first half. The Monarchs went more than six minutes without another field goal as Averett went on a 16-0 run. Senior Dragan Radmanovic ended the drought with a three-pointer on an assist from freshman Adrian Bascom. Methodist continued to cut into the lead, closing the gap to nine at halftime. Early in the second half, the Monarchs hit three three-pointers to come within four points. The Cougars responded by going inside and ended up with 22 points in the paint to the Monarchs' eight. After the three consecutive threes in the first two minutes of the half, Methodist went 0-for-12 from behind the arc. Averett pulled in the rebounds and dominated the second half to take the 71-52 win. Senior Rob Lee led Methodist with 16 points. Sophomore AB Lehmann added 11 points while Radmanovic had ten. Sophomore Antwin Shuford scored 7 points to go along with 12 rebounds. The Monarchs will host North Carolina Wesleyan on Monday at 7:30 pm. |
