Catholic Defeats Monarchs 72-43
Freshman Adrian Bascom leads Methodist with 11 points

WASHINGTON, DC-  The Monarchs fell to host Catholic University in the first day of the Catholic Classic.  The Cardinals jumped out early with a 46-23 lead at halftime.  They went on to win 72-43 to improve to 9-2 while the Monarchs fall to 4-5.

The Monarchs' shooting woes continued as the team went 17-for-53 for a meager 32 percent from the field.  Methodist took a 6-4 lead on a jumper by senior Dragan Radmanovic with less than 17 minutes remaining before Catholic took the lead for good on a 3-pointer from Steven Papageorge.  At the ten minute mark, Methodist freshman Adrian Bascom hit a jumper to move within 11 with the score 28-17.  The Cardinals went on a 12-0 run over the next three minutes before they finished the half up 46-23.

The Monarchs played the second half closer, but the Cardinals' first half lead was too much to overcome.  Bascom led Methodist with 11 points while Radmanovic and sophomore Antwin Shuford both finished with six.  Radmanovic and senior Brandon Williams had five rebounds a piece.

Cardinal Stephen Wheeler paced Catholic with 25 points and eight rebounds.

The Monarchs will face Rutgers-Newark in the Consolation game of the Catholic Classic on Sunday at 2 pm.
