Monarchs Out Run Emory & Henry 142-119
Junior Travis McBryde scored 35 points with 15 rebounds in the win

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Methodist men's basketball team started out strong and managed to keep up with the Emory & Henry "Fun 'N Gun" offense as the Monarchs ran away with a 142-119 victory. Methodist improves to 4-1 this season while Emory & Henry falls to 2-2 on the year.

Freshman LeuMichael Smith opened things up for Methodist with a dunk in just the first three seconds of play. The Wasps countered with a layup at the other end, but came up empty on their next seven possessions for the Monarchs to take an 18-2 lead. Emory & Henry used 3-pointers to come back and tie the game at 24 with 11:54 to go in the half. The game stayed close for nearly the rest of the half until Methodist pulled away to 64-54 in the final minute. The Wasps' Andrew Hart hit a late three to close the gap to seven at halftime.

The Monarchs came out strong again in the second half to build a 13 point advantage. Josh Cunningham hit a 3-pointer for Emory & Henry with less than 12 minutes to go to move within two points, but the Monarchs went on another run using free throws to finish the possession. Methodist out scored the Wasps 23-7 in the final five minutes backed by three dunks from junior Travis McBryde. Freshman A.J. Hester scored the final basket for Methodist to give the Monarchs a 142-119 win.

McBryde finished with a double-double, scoring 35 points with 15 rebounds. Senior Travis Winstead scored 21 points on 8-for-10 shooting while Smith scored 20 points. Junior Antwin Shuford also registered a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Junior A.B. Lehmann added 10 points with seven assists. The Monarchs shot 67% from the field for a season-high.

The Monarchs will host LaGrange College Sunday at 4 pm.
