FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Monarchs rebounded from their loss to Greensboro on Wednesday in a 63-59 win over Ferrum. Methodist improves to 9-11 overall and 4-4 in the USA South, while Ferrum falls to 9-12 this season and 3-5 in the conference. The Monarchs came out strong to gain a nine point eight minutes into the game. Both teams exchanged baskets for the next five minutes before the Panthers' Robbie Price hit a three-pointer to move within four with 6:26 remaining in the half. The Monarchs built their lead back to seven before the Panthers finished the half with two free throws and a jumper by Keith Harris to only trail by three at halftime. Ferrum kept it close early tying the game at 37 with 17:38 left in the half. The Monarchs took the lead back but the Panthers tied it at 43 with 13:41 remaining. Both teams went scoreless for the next two minutes and 44 seconds before Monarch sophomore Antwin Shuford hit a free throw to give the Monarchs a one point lead. The Panthers' Austin Blakely hit a free throw to tie it before the game ended up going four and a half minutes without a field goal. Cedric Jones ended the drought for the Panthers with a layup to take the 46-44 lead with 9:14 to go and the Monarch sophomore AB Lehmann evened the score again on a jumper. Ferrum led once more, but the Monarchs took the lead for good on a layup by Shuford with 5:47 left in the game. Ferrum senior Keith Harris hit a three pointer with 16 seconds left on the clock to move within three and after a Monarch turnover had a chance to tie the game but Harris' next two attempts feel short. Lehmann capped off the scoring with a free throw to give the Monarchs the 63-59 win. Senior Dragan Radmanovic finished with 11 points while Shuford registered a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Lehmann added 10 points and four assists in the win. The Monarchs will host the Averett Cougars on Tuesday at 7:30 in conjunction with Take a Kid to the Game day. |
