Methodist Falls to Ferrum 70-69
Sophomore Tyler Sigman scored 13 points for the Monarchs

FERRM, VA- Over the course of 40 minutes there were seven ties and 15 lead changes, but Ferrum took the lead last to earn the 70-69 win over the Monarchs. The Monarchs move to 13-8 overall this season and 5-3 in the USA South while Ferrum moves to 11-10 overall and 5-3 in the conference. With an Averett loss to Greensboro today, Methodist, Ferrum and Greensboro are all tied at the top of the USA South standings.

Both teams battled early through the first half with neither team gaining much of an edge. Ferrum hit back-to-back 3-pointers with eight minutes to go in the half to take a five point lead and held on for the 35-32 lead at halftime.

Ferrum extended their lead to seven points on two different occasions in the first part of the second half, but Methodist senior Billy McDade tied the game at 58 on a jumper with just over six minutes to play. Junior Antwin Shuford grabbed the steal and dunked to give Methodist a two point lead but Ferrum's Marcus Mayo converted two free throws to tie the game again. The teams exchanged baskets three more times with Methodist sophomore Tyler Sigman tying the game at 66 with 58 seconds left on the clock. Ferrum's Keith Crump hit two free throws to take the lead with 38 seconds to play but Methodist junior A.B. Lehmann sank a 3-pointer on the other end to give Methodist a one point advantage. Methodist needed to hold on for 19 more seconds, but with the clock down to 10, Crump hit an off-balance jumper to give Ferrum the 70-69 win.

McDade and junior Travis McBryde led the Monarchs with 15 points a piece while Sigman added 13. Shuford led the team in rebounding with eight boards.

The Monarchs will face Averett on Tuesday at 7:30 pm in Danville, Va.
