Ferrum Defeats Methodist in Tournament Quarterfinal
Sophomore
Antwin Shuford leads the Monarchs with 15 points

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  After defeating Ferrum twice in the regular season, the third time was a charm for the Panthers as they knocked the Monarchs out of the tournament with a 77-71 loss.  The Monarchs shot only 30 percent from the floor in the first half and finished 33 percent from the free throw line.  Methodist finishes the season 11-14 overall and 6-6 in the USA South while Ferrum moves to 12-14 this season and 5-7 in the USA South.

The Monarchs scored first, but the Panthers tied the game with a layup and took the lead for good on free throws by Cedric Jones.  Despite Methodist's poor shooting, the team stayed within striking distance closing the Panther lead to five with 6:53 to go in the first half.  Ferrum regained a ten point lead, but the Monarchs closed to eight at halftime.

The Panthers led by as many as seventeen in the second half before the Monarchs began to cut into the lead.  Ferrum still held a thirteen point lead with 3:19 on the clock.  Senior Rob Lee hit a three-pointer and a jumper in the paint on consecutive possessions to close the gap to six with 1:02 remaining.  Ferrum's Jon Godsey gave his team a 67-60 lead on a free throw before Shuford scored the first Monarch free throw with 46 seconds left to close the lead to six again.  Freshman Bryan Pittman hit two free throws to move Methodist within three, but the Monarchs were forced to foul in the closing seconds.  The Panthers finished 5-for-6 from the free throw line in the final 22 seconds to gain the 77-71 win.

Shuford led the Monarchs with 15 points and 15 rebounds while senior Dragan Radmanovic and Pittman scored 11 a piece.
