The
2008-09 season will mark the Methodist Monarch men’s basketball
team's 46th season in intercollegiate competition as it was one
of the school’s inaugural three sports in 1963.
Overall, Methodist has been one of the most successful programs
in the history of the USA South Athletic Conference. The Monarchs
have won 10 regular season conference championships, including championships
in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2008. In addition, Methodist has won seven
conference tournament championships with five NCAA Division III
National Tournament appearances.
In the 1996-97 season, the Monarchs posted their banner year
with a 22-8 overall record and advanced to the "Elite Eight" of
the NCAA Division III National Tournament. The 22 victories was
a single-season school record for victories and included a
Division III national record stretch of 20 straight victories.
Individual honors include 54 All-Conference honors as well as
one NCAA Division III South Region Player of the Year, three
NCAA Division III All-Americans, two conference Players of the
Year, one conference Rookie of the Year, nine conference Coach
of the Year honors, and one Region Coach of the Year.
