Monarchs to Join USA South for Senior Challenge
Seven student-athletes will face off against the ODAC Sunday
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The
Old Dominion Athletic Conference and the USA South Athletic Conference
have once again come together to conduct The ODAC/USA South Senior
Basketball Challenge. The event, in its third year, will consist
of both a women's and men's all-star game. The games will be played
in Everett Gymnasium on the campus of the USA South's own N.C.
Wesleyan College on Sunday, March 16. The event will begin with
the women's game at 1:00 p.m. and conclude with the men's game
at 3:00 p.m. Tickets will be $3 and may be purchased at the game.

Monarchs Fall to Averett in Overtime
Freshman LeuMichael Smith led Methodist with 17 points
NEWPORT NEWS, VA- The
Monarchs got off to a quick start, but had to come from behind
to tie the game and send the USA South Tournament semifinal into
overtime against Averett University. Methodist led by as many
as four in overtime, but lost 70-68 to the Cougars. The Monarchs
finish the season 16-10 overall while Averett advances to the
championship with a 12-15 record. release

Monarchs Receive All-Conference Honors
Methodist student-athletes receive season conference honors
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The USA South Athletic Conference has announced
its All-Conference awards for men's basketball. A total of 20
student-athletes have been named to the USA South All-Conference
teams for men's basketball. Methodist's Billy McDade, LeuMichael
Smith and Antwin Shuford have been honored by the conference.

Senior Brian Lane scores career high 21 points in final home game
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Methodist
took over late in the first half and went on an early run in the
second half to cruise to a 94-85 win over Christopher Newport
Saturday afternoon. The men finished in a tie for first place
with Ferrum College for the USA South Championship. The Monarchs
move to 16-9 overall this season and 8-4 in the USA South while
Christopher Newport is 10-15 overall and 6-6 in the conference.

Monarchs Come From Behind in Final Minutes to Won 65-61
Freshman LeuMichael Smith scores career-high 27 points
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Shenandoah
led throughout most of the first half before the Monarchs took
lead late. The Hornets regained the lead in the second half and
it was not until the final minute and 16 seconds that Methodist
took the lead and held on for the 65-61 win. The Monarchs move
to 15-9 overall this season and 7-4 in the USA South while Shenandoah
stands at 15-9 overall and 5-6 in the conference. release

N.C. Wesleyan Drops Methodist Men 74-67
Junior Travis McBryde scored 15 points
ROCKY MOUNT, NC- A
seven point halftime deficit was too much for the Monarchs to
overcome as the Monarchs lost 74-67 to N.C. Wesleyan Monday night.
The Monarchs move to 14-9 overall this season and 6-4 in the USA
South while N.C. Wesleyan moves to 10-13 overall and 3-7 in the

Monarchs' Sharp Shooting Sinks Averett 75-68
Senior Billy McDade led the team with 18 points
DANVILLE, VA- Methodist
shot better than 74 percent from the field in the first half on
their way to a 46-35 halftime lead. The Monarchs hung on through
the final 20 minutes to prevail 75-68. The Monarchs move to 14-8
overall this season and 6-3 in the USA South while Averett moves
to 11-11 overall and 5-4 in the conference. release

Methodist Falls to Ferrum 70-69
Sophomore Tyler Sigman scored 13 points for the Monarchs
FERRM, VA- Over
the course of 40 minutes there were seven ties and 15 lead changes,
but Ferrum took the lead last to earn the 70-69 win over the Monarchs.
The Monarchs move to 13-8 overall this season and 5-3 in the USA
South while Ferrum moves to 11-10 overall and 5-3 in the conference.
With an Averett loss to Greensboro today, Methodist, Ferrum and
Greensboro are all tied at the top of the USA South standings.

Lehmann Named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Selection
Junior point guard earned second team honors
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) recently
released the annual ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams
naming Methodist junior A.B. Lehmann to the second team. Carrying
a 3.87 GPA while majoring in biology, Lehmann earned his second
consecutive All-District award. release

Senior Billy McDade pours in 42 points for Methodist
NEWPORT NEWS, VA- The
Methodist Monarchs scored first against the Christopher Newport
Captains on Saturday evening and went on to win 95-85 without
ever relinquishing the lead. Senior Billy McDade was on fire scoring
42 points for Methodist, just one shy of tying the school record
for points in a game. The Monarchs move to 11-7 overall this season
and 3-2 in the USA South while Christopher Newport is 5-13 overall

Methodist University has set a date for its annual NCAA® Basketball
Take A Kid to the Game® day for February 6, 2008 where they
will host the Greensboro College Pride at 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm
in the March F. Riddle Center on the campus of Methodist University.
Area youth 14 and under are invited to attend this special event
free of charge. Youth will have the opportunity to experience
the college game-day atmosphere and some exciting action as they
watch the Monarchs compete for a win over the Pride. release

took an early lead in the first half, but Methodist came back

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA- Virginia Wesleyan College took an early
lead and the Monarchs could not recover as the Marlins cruised
to a 79-51 victory on Wednesday. The Monarchs move to 6-5 on the
season while Virginia Wesleyan improves to 6-2 this year. release

Junior Antwin Shuford led with 18 points to earn All-Classic honors
DEMOREST, GA- Maryville jumped out to an early lead in the
second day of Piedmont Holiday Classic, but the Monarchs came
back to take the lead with both teams exchanging leads throughout
the game. Maryville broke a 58-58 tie with 7:20 to go in the game
and held on for the 72-69 win. The Monarchs move to 6-4 on the
season while Maryville improves to 8-2 this year. release

Sophomore Tyler Sigman scored 17 points for Methodist
DEMOREST, GA- The Monarchs led throughout most of the game
Saturday night with a complete dominance on the boards, out rebounding
Piedmont 43-24. Piedmont made a push late, but Methodist held
on for the 102-98 win. The Monarchs improve to 6-3 on the season

Junior Travis McBryde scored 10 points with seven rebounds
GREENSBORO, NC- The Methodist men's basketball team traveled
to Guilford College Wednesday night to take on the Quakers, recently
ranked number seven in the D3Hoops.com poll. The Quakers took
an early lead while the Monarchs struggled with a 28 percent shooting
percentage. Methodist moves to 5-2 this season while Guilford

2007-08 Men's Basketball Preview
Monarchs travel to season opener tonight
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Less than three years ago, the Methodist
men’s basketball team was celebrating its third consecutive
conference championship and heading towards their second straight
NCAA appearance. The Monarchs finished 20-8 during the 2004-05
season to take top conference honors, but over the past two seasons,
the team has not lived up to expectations. Methodist head coach
David Smith feels last year’s team learned what they need
to do. “We have an influx of new players to help out and
they should add to our team chemistry,” Smith said.

their final exhibition game Wednesday night at NCAA Division I

Methodist senior Billy McDade scored 25 points to lead the Monarchs
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Methodist
men's basketball team played host to the Astana Tigers of Kazakhstan
in an exhibition game Thursday night. The Tigers are traveling
through the area playing a series of exhibition games sponsored
by Athletes in Action. The Monarchs stayed with the team early
before the Tigers pulled away for the 85-70 win. release

Event dedicated to Chris Ryan with sons Caleb and Joshua

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Methodist
University basketball teams, cheerleading and dance teams as well
as the Student Activities Committee sponsored their annual Hoopla
Frenzy Thursday night. Student-athletes and fans had the opportunity
to participate in games to win prizes. The night culminated with
both teams running a ten minute scrimmage. release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The USA South Conference office released the
preseason polls today for men's and women's basketball. The polls
are based on votes from each conference member's head coach without
voting for themselves. release

Men's Basketball Opens Practice at Midnight
Monarchs took the court for the first time early Monday morning
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Methodist men's basketball team opened
the 2007-08 season with their second annual "Midnight Madness"
early Monday morning. The team took the court at 12:01 am Oct.
15 with the first official workout of the year followed by a 2-mile
