Coach Ryerson Coaches Team in European Friendship Basketball Series
College players from all divisions of the NCAA and NAIA compete overseas
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  Men's assistant basketball coach and cross country head coach Tim Ryerson spent another opportunity coaching with USA Athletes International in Europe.  Last summer Ryerson led high school seniors in Belgium and returned earlier this month to coach college All-Stars in four games throughout France, England and Belgium.  release

Five Monarch Seniors Named to USA South Team for Senior Challenge
The USA South seniors will take on seniors from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference and the USA South Athletic Conference have once again come together to conduct The ODAC/USA South Senior Basketball Challenge. The USA South hosted last year's inaugural event on the campus of Averett University. This year, the ODAC will host the game at Roanoke College's C. Homer Bast Center in Roanoke, Va. on Sunday, March 18.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference awards for men's basketball. A total of 15 student-athletes have been named to the USA South All-Conference teams for men's basketball.  Methodist senior Dragan Radmanovic is one of five players garnering Honorable Mention honors.  release

Ferrum Defeats Methodist in Tournament Quarterfinal
Sophomore Antwin Shuford leads the Monarchs with 15 points

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  After defeating Ferrum twice in the regular season, the third time was a charm for the Panthers as they knocked the Monarchs out of the tournament with a 77-71 loss.  The Monarchs shot only 30 percent from the floor in the first half and finished 33 percent from the free throw line.  Methodist finishes the season 11-14 overall and 6-6 in the USA South while Ferrum moves to 12-14 this season and 5-7 in the USA South.  release

Sophomore AB Lehmann hit four three-pointers on the way to 14 points

WINCHESTER, VA-  The Monarchs held off a strong comeback by the Shenandoah Hornets to win their final regular season game 74-73.  Methodist improves to 11-13 overall and 6-6 in the USA South while Shenandoah falls to 7-17 this season and 1-11 in the conference.  release

Senior Rob Lee scores 24 points in the loss

NEWPORT NEWS, VA-  The Monarchs took an early lead in the first half before Christopher Newport took over midway through the half.  Methodist came back in the second half to tie the game at 80, but the Captains prevailed 93-91.  Methodist falls to 10-13 overall and 5-6 in the USA South while Christopher Newport moves to 15-9 this season and 7-4 in the conference.  release

Senior Dragan Radmanovic leads Methodist with 17 points

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  After falling to NC Wesleyan 88-86 last month, the Monarchs were ready to come out strong.  Just one game behind the fourth place Bishops, Methodist led throughout the second half on their way to a 79-73 win.  Methodist and NC Wesleyan are all tied up in the conference both sitting at 10-12 overall and 5-5 in the USA South.  release

Lehmann Named to 2007 ESPN The Magazine District III All-Academic Team
AB Lehmann boasts a 3.95 cumulative GPA at Methodist after the 2006 fall semester

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has announced that Methodist men's basketball player AB Lehmann has been named to the District III All-Academic Team.  Lehmann's 3.95 cumulative grade point average at Methodist earned him first team honors in the college division.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Monarchs needed a win on Saturday to get back into the USA South race.  After losing the last three, the team came on strong to take the 86-85 win in overtime.  The Monarchs move to 7-10 overall and 2-3 in the USA South, while Christopher Newport moves to 11-7 this season and 3-2 in the conference.  release

DANVILLE, VA-  With seven lead changes and three ties, the Methodist-Averett match-up proved to be a tight contest.  The Monarchs led by as many as seven, but the Cougars came back to defeat the Monarchs 61-58 in the final minutes.  The Monarchs fall to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in the USA South, while Averett moves to 11-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Monarchs won their second straight with a 71-55 win over Piedmont.  More than a month ago, the Monarchs lost at Piedmont, but came back to defeat the Lions at the Riddle Center.  The Monarchs improve to 6-7 overall, while Piedmont falls to 7-8 this season.  release

Monarchs Snap Five-Game Losing Streak With 78-73 Win
Methodist overcomes second half 18-point deficit to defeat Ferrum

FERRUM, VA-  Twenty-six days ago, the Methodist men's basketball team won the Randolph-Macon Tournament with a championship win over Gettysburg.  The team took a break for the holidays and returned to lose the next five.  It looked like Ferrum could be the sixth consecutive loss when the Monarchs were down by 18 in the second half, but the team turned it around to snap the streak and win their first conference game this season.  The Monarchs improve to 5-7 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while Ferrum falls to 6-9 overall and 0-2 in the USA South.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Greensboro Pride had not won at the Riddle Center in almost seven years, but managed to take the first conference game of the season in a 62-47 win over the Monarchs.  The Monarchs fall to 4-7 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while Greensboro moves to 10-3 overall and 1-0 in the USA South.  release

Sophomore AB Lehmann breaks Methodist record with eight 3-pointers in the loss

WASHINGTON, DC-  The Monarchs were leading the Rutgers-Newark Raiders for most of the game before the Raiders overcame a 19-point deficit to take the 76-72 win.  Methodist made a push at the end behind eight 3-pointers from sophomore AB Lehmann, but the Raiders held on for the win.  Methodist falls to 4-6 on the season while Rutgers-Newark is 10-2.  release

Freshman Adrian Bascom leads Methodist with 11 points

WASHINGTON, DC-  The Monarchs fell to host Catholic University in the first day of the Catholic Classic.  The Cardinals jumped out early with a 46-23 lead at halftime.  They went on to win 72-43 to improve to 9-2 while the Monarchs fall to 4-5.  release

Sophomore Antwin Shuford paces Methodist with 10 points
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Monarchs finished their series with the Old Dominion Athletic Conference on Wednesday with a tough loss to the defending NCAA Division III Champion Marlins 49-84.  Midway through the first half, the Monarchs were within five, but Virginia Wesleyan expanded their lead throughout the remainder of the game to take the win.  Methodist moves to 4-4 overall while Virginia Wesleyan is 9-2.  release

Freshman averaged 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in last two games
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The USA South Athletic Conference announced their Athletes of the Week Tuesday afternoon for contests played from December 18 through January 1.  Adrian Bascom, a freshman forward on the Methodist men's basketball team, has been named the Rookie of the Week based on his efforts.  release

Monarchs Push Guilford to Double Overtime Before Falling 102-108
Senior Dragan Radmanovic leads Methodist with 27 points
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  At the end of regulation it was hard to believe the Monarchs had been losing by as many as 17 in the first half.  Methodist shook things off and battled back to send the game into double overtime.  Guilford started strong and finished strong opening the second overtime on a 9-0 run to seal the deal and win their eighth straight.  The Monarchs move to 4-3 on the season while Guilford stands at 8-0.  release

ASHLAND, VA-  The Monarchs had another strong second half to defeat Gettysburg 71-61 and take home the Hal Nunnally December Classic Championship.  Methodist finished the weekend 2-0 to improve their overall record to 4-2 while Gettysburg falls to 2-7 on the season.  release

Sophomore Antwin Shuford registers a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds

ASHLAND, VA-  Methodist was down by seven at halftime and as many as 12 points in the second half before closing out the game on a 22-4 run to win 76-69 over the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets.  The Monarchs move to 3-2 on the season while Randolph-Macon is 4-4 overall.  release

DAYTONA BEACH, FL-  Embry Riddle won the Daytona Mitsubishi Shootout Saturday night defeating Methodist 77-68.  The Monarchs finish the tournament with a 2-2 overall record while Embry Riddle jumps out to an 8-1 start on the season.  release

DAYTONA BEACH, FL-  The Monarchs came out strong against Baruch on Friday night to open the Daytona Mitsubishi Shootout hosted by Embry Riddle University.  Methodist held as much as a 17 point lead in the first half to translate into the Monarchs' second win of the season.  Methodist and Baruch both move to 2-1 on the season.  release

DEMOREST, GA-  The Methodist men's basketball team traveled to Piedmont College for their first road game of the season on Sunday.  The Piedmont Lions took an early lead and while the Monarchs closed to within three at halftime, Piedmont finished with the 87-73 victory.  Methodist moves to 1-1 on the season while Piedmont stands at 1-2.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Monarchs were anxious to start their season and they started things off right with an 85-59 win over Newport News Apprentice.  The Monarchs took a 6-4 lead with 15:34 left to play in the first half and never looked back.  Methodist moves to 1-0 on the season while Apprentice falls to 0-1.  release

BOILING SPRINGS, NC-  The men's basketball team traveled to Gardner-Webb University Wednesday night to take on the Division I opponent in an exhibition game.  Only up by 4 at halftime, Gardner-Webb expanded their lead in the second half to defeat the Monarchs 86-68.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The USA South Conference office has released the preseason polls today for men's and women's basketball.  The polls are based on votes from each conference member's head coach without voting for themselves.  release

Coach Ryerson Leads Team USA to Championship
Team wins first place in the Flanders Basketball Trophy tournament
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  Assistant basketball coach and new cross country head coach Tim Ryerson spent ten days in August coaching high school seniors from all across the United States in the Flanders Basketball Trophy in Belgium.  Ryerson nominated the athletes who were then selected by USA Athletes International.  Team USA finished the trip going undefeated, winning three exhibition games before securing the championship in four games.  release

Current men's basketball assistant becomes the first full-time assistant coach in program history
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  Current Methodist men's basketball assistant coach Tim Ryerson has been named the new men's and women's cross country head coach, Athletics Director Bob McEvoy announced Thursday.  Ryerson came to Methodist as the men's basketball assistant in 2005.  He has also served as Interim Sports Information Director for four months this past spring. release
