Men's Basketball Falls to Maryville 65-78
Freshman Adrian Bascom leads the Monarchs with 18 points

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Monarchs were within four points at halftime, but the Maryville Scots took over late in the second half to earn the win.  The Monarchs fall to 6-9 overall, while Maryville improves to 13-4 on the season.

Maryville led early before freshman Adrian Bascom hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 16 with less than twelve minutes remaining in the half.  Maryville missed their 3-point attempt on the other end and Bascom came back down with a layup to go up by two.  Maryville regained the lead on a three and maintained the advantage for the next six and a half minutes before senior Dragan Radmanovic hit a jumper in the paint to tie the game at 29 with 3:29 to go.  The Scots had a seven point lead after a steal by Alex Bowers and layup by Bo Mason, but the Monarchs capitalized on their own steal with a 3-pointer by sophomore AB Lehmann to close the gap to four at halftime.

The Scots came out in the second half intent on expanding their lead.  Maryville was up by 14 with less than ten minutes to go when the Monarchs went on a 12-2 run to move within four points.  The 3-pointers started falling with Lehmann sinking one and Radmanovic hitting two of his own on consecutive possessions.  The Scots responded with a three point play by Quinn Bradley when he made the free throw after being fouled on the way to the basket.  Maryville held a seven point lead with 2:31 remaining, but the Monarchs' attempt to stop the clock with fouls sent the Scots to the free throw line where they finished 6-for-8 from the line in the final minutes.

Bascom led the Monarchs with 18 points while Radmanovic had 15.  Lehmann added 10 points and sophomore Antwin Shuford dominated the boards with 13 rebounds to go along with his 9 points.

The Monarchs will resume conference play on Monday at NC Wesleyan with tip-off at 7:30 pm.
