Maryville Defeats Methodist 88-75
Freshman LeuMichael Smith led the team with 13 points

MARYVILLE, TN- Methodist and Maryville men's basketball teams battled with a tight game early in the first half before Maryville began to pull away. The Monarchs hit 3-pointers late in the game, but Maryville won 88-75. Methodist moves to 5-3 on the season while Maryville improves to 6-1.

Methodist junior Travis McBryde scored first on a jumper in the paint, but Maryville came back and scored on the other end. The teams exchanged leads with the score tied at 14 with just over 12 minutes to go in the half. The Scots gradually built their lead to a ten point margin at halftime.

Maryville led by 21 points with five minutes to go in the game. The Monarchs made four three pointers along with eight other points to close the lead to 13 but it was not enough as the Scots won 88-75.

Freshman LeuMichael Smith led Methodist in scoring with 13 points backed by 9-for-11 shooting from the free throw line. Junior Antwin Shuford scored 12 points and junior A.B. Lehmann scored 11 points. Senior Billy McDade was also in double figures with 10. The Monarchs struggled with shooting in the first half, but shot 62 percent from the field in the second half almost doubling their scoring.

The Monarchs will break for the holiday before traveling to Piedmont December 29-30.
