ROCKY MOUNT, NC- The Monarchs made a strong push in the final minutes, but ran out of time before falling to the Bishops 88-86. The Monarchs fall to 6-10 overall and 1-3 in the USA South, while North Carolina Wesleyan stands at 8-8 this season and 3-1 in the conference. NC Wesleyan took an early lead, winning by as many as 17 points in the first half. Senior Dragan Radmanovic hit a layup with 1:34 remaining in the half before sinking a 3-pointer with less than 30 seconds left to close the lead to 12 at halftime. The Monarchs slowly chipped away at the lead, but were still down by nine with less than ten minutes to go. Sophomore Antwin Shuford took over scoring the next nine points for Methodist. They closed the gap to one before the Bishops responded with a run of their own extending the lead back to nine with less than five minutes remaining. Sophomore AB Lehmann was fouled with 38 seconds to go and the team down by three. He hit his second free throw to move within two, but when forced to foul, Bishops player Adam Coleman hit both of his free throws to lead by four. Shuford dunked with the clock ticking down, but the Monarchs fell short 86-88. Radmanovic led the team with 32 points including four 3-pointers to go along with 13 rebounds. Shuford and senior Rob Lee each had 15 points a piece. The Monarchs will host Christopher Newport and Shenandoah on Saturday and Sunday at 4 pm this weekend. |
