Monarchs Fall to Piedmont 87-73

DEMOREST, GA-  The Methodist men's basketball team traveled to Piedmont College for their first road game of the season on Sunday.  The Piedmont Lions took an early lead and while the Monarchs closed to within three at halftime, Piedmont finished with the 87-73 victory.  Methodist moves to 1-1 on the season while Piedmont stands at 1-2.

Down by as much as 15 in the first half, a three-pointer by sophomore AB Lehmann closed the gap to three just under two minutes to go.  Tyler Whitlock countered for the Lions before senior Monarch Dragan Radmanovic scored two baskets to move within one with the score 41-40.  Piedmont's Branden Mayweather scored with less than a minute to give the Lions the 43-40 lead at halftime.

Piedmont came back in the second half and continued to dominate.  The Lions outrebounded the Monarchs 52-35 during the game.  Jake Baldwin led the Lions with 15 rebounds while Whitlock added 10.  Mike Adams had a game-high 25 points for Piedmont while three other players hit double figures.

Freshman Monarch Darrian Anderson went 9-for-16 from the floor to score 21 points in the loss.  Sophomore Antwin Shuford scored 14 and led the team with 7 rebounds.

The Monarchs will travel to the Embry Riddle Tournament on Friday to face Baruch College at 6 pm.
