Monarchs Hold On For 102-98 Win Over Piedmont
Sophomore Tyler Sigman scored 17 points for Methodist

DEMOREST, GA- The Monarchs led throughout most of the game Saturday night with a complete dominance on the boards, out rebounding Piedmont 43-24. Piedmont made a push late, but Methodist held on for the 102-98 win. The Monarchs improve to 6-3 on the season while Piedmont stands at 5-5.

Methodist junior A.B. Lehmann hit two 3-pointers to open the scoring for the Monarchs and give the team a 6-2 lead. Piedmont took a brief 7-6 lead, before the Monarchs took control in the first half. The team rolled to a 12 point lead at halftime, with the 52-40 advantage.

In the second half, the Piedmont Lions closed the gap to one, but Methodist rallied to jump back out to a 15 point lead. With 1:29 to go, the Monarchs were ahead 96-81. Piedmont kept fighting and down by nine with six seconds left, Piedmont's Wesley Parker was fouled on a three point attempt. Parker knocked down all three free throws to close the lead to six. Methodist sophomore Tyler Sigman was fouled right away and hit the second of two free throws before Piedmont closed with a 3-pointer. The Monarchs prevailed 102-98.

All five Methodist starters reached double figures with Lehmann and Sigman leading the team with 17 points a piece. Sophomore Eric Thomas scored 16 points while senior Billy McDade added 12 points. Junior Antwin Shuford registered a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Travis McBryde also scored 10 points.

In the first game of the day, Averett defeated Maryville 74-70. Methodist will take on Maryville on Sunday at 2 pm.
