![]() Monarchs’ Porter gains second team Division III All-South Region honor FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The postseason accolades continue to roll in for Methodist’s Sam Porter. First was a first team All-USA South Athletic Conference honor, and then the Most Valuable Player recognition in the USA South Tournament. Now, Porter can add second team Division III All-South Region honors to the list. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound junior forward from Bamberg, S.C. was selected to the All-Region team, which was sponsored by d3hoops.com, on Wednesday. After coming out of nowhere to join the team this season following a semester of playing pick-up games, Porter played an instrumental roll in leading Methodist to an 18-10 mark, including 11-3 in the USA South Athletic Conference and the conference regular season and tournament championships. The Monarchs also earned their first NCAA Division III National Tournament bid since the 1996-1997 season. For the season, Porter led Methodist in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 13 points and nine rebounds a game. He also led the USA South in both rebounding and field goal percentage, and recorded a whopping nine double-doubles - all in conference play. Twice this season, Porter was selected to the d3hoops.com "Team of the Week." However, it was in the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament where he made his mark. Porter scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the quarterfinals against Averett, followed by a 15-point, 12-rebound performance against North Carolina Wesleyan in the semifinals. In the championship game against Shenandoah, Porter scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in leading Methodist to a 72-58 victory and the USA South Tournament championship. |
