February 3, 2008 WINCHESTER, VA- Methodist took the lead for good late in the first half and held on despite a late push from the Shenandoah Hornets to hold on for a 77-72 victory. The Monarchs move to 12-7 overall this season and 4-2 in the USA South. Shenandoah scored first, but Methodist took the lead for good with 2:50 remaining in the first half on a dunk from freshman LeuMichael Smith. The Hornets tied the game at 47 with 12:10 to go in the game, but the Monarchs regained the lead and led by as many as eight points with 37 seconds left on the clock. Shenandoah kept battling, but Methodist held on for the 77-72 win. Methodist senior Billy McDade led the team with 19 points while junior Antwin Shuford was right behind him with 18 points. Smith finished with 14 points while junior Travis McBryde added 13 points. Shuford and McBryde each grabbed seven rebounds to lead the team. The Monarchs will host Greensboro on Wednesday at 7:30 pm in conjunction with the "Take a Kid to the Game" initiative. All kids 14 and under will be admitted free and treated to a free popcorn and drink. |
