WINCHESTER, VA-  The Monarchs held off a strong comeback by the Shenandoah Hornets to win their final regular season game 74-73.  Methodist improves to 11-13 overall and 6-6 in the USA South while Shenandoah falls to 7-17 this season and 1-11 in the conference.

The Monarchs led by as many as 18 points in the first half before Shenandoah closed the gap to 11 at halftime.  Methodist scored first in the second half to lead by 13, but the Hornets began to slowly cut into the Monarchs' lead.  With 7:16 remaining Shenandoah came within five.  Senior Rob Lee gave the Monarchs a ten point lead on a three-pointer with 3:01 to go when the Hornets called a timeout.  The Hornets kept up their rally scoring a game-tying layup with one second on the clock to send the game into overtime.

During overtime, freshman Adrian Bascom scored first before Lennie Adams tied it for Shenandoah.  Senior Brandon Williams and Lehmann combined to shoot 4-for-4 from the free throw line to take a four point lead with 25 seconds left in the period.  The Hornets were sent to the free throw line and hit the first free throw to close the gap to three with seven seconds to go.  Another three-point attempt by the Hornets was off and settled for a jumper at the buzzer to give the Monarchs the one-point win.

Lee led the Monarchs with 20 points while Lehmann finished with 14 and Bascom added 10.  Sophomore Antwin Shuford had a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Monarchs will host Ferrum in a USA South quarterfinal game on Tuesday at 7:30 pm.
