![]() Monarchs second after first round of Callaway Collegiate Methodist trails Oglethorpe by eight strokes; Schneider, Bova tied for second CALLAWAY GARDENS, Ga. – Fresh off winning their opening tournament of the 2006 season, the Methodist Monarch men’s golf team is currently second overall following the first round of the Callaway Collegiate on Monday. The Monarchs, ranked second nationally in Division III, shot an opening round 301 to trail leader Oglethorpe by eight strokes. The Monarchs hold a two-stroke lead over Huntingdon, a five-stroke lead over Texas Lutheran and a six-stroke lead over Emory. Rounding out the Top 10 after the first round include Rhodes (308), LaGrange (310), Central Alabama (311), Averett (313) and California Lutheran (318). The tournament is a 16-team field on the Par-72, 7,020-yard Mountain Course. Individually, Methodist’s Cory Schneider and Nick Bova are both tied for second after shooting even-par 72 in the first round. They are both tied with Oglethorpe’s Joe Lyda, and the trio trails leader Taylor Urbanski from Oglethorpe by two strokes. In addition to Schneider and Bova, Adam Horton shot a 78 for the first round for Methodist, while Brian Gussis and Justin Tulk both shot a 79. The second and final round of the Callaway Collegiate is set for Tuesday. |
