Monarchs stand fourth after first round of Gordin Classic

SURF SIDE BEACH, S.C. –
Fresh off being ranked No. 1 in the latest NCAA Division III Top 25 poll, the Methodist Monarch men’s golf team currently stands fourth at the Gordin Classic on Sunday following the first round. The Monarchs shot a 300 in the opening round at the Deer Track North Course.

Methodist trails both Huntingdon and Emory by two strokes. Guilford is the leader following the first round with a 291. Oglethorpe rounds out the Top Five with a 302 in the 12-team field.

Methodist’s Nick Bova has the top Monarch score with a 1-over par 73, putting him in sixth overall. Brant Dixon shot a 74 in the first round, while Brian Gussis shot a 76, John Duckworth finished with a 77 and Cory Schneider shot a 78 to round out the Methodist scoring. Guilford’s Joe Pipeland is the overall leader with a 4-under-68.

The second and final round of the Gordin Classis is set for Monday.
