Methodist finishes close third at Greensboro Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –
A third straight championship in the Greensboro Invitational was within reach on Tuesday for the Methodist Monarch men’s golf team. However, the Monarchs came two strokes short at the end of the final round.

Methodist shot a team-low 285 for Tuesday’s final round for a two-round total of 587. But Huntingdon was second at 586 and Guilford won the tournament with a 585. Greensboro placed fourth with a 590, and Oglethorpe was fifth in the 15-team field with a 592.

Methodist’s top finisher was Nick Bova, who placed sixth with a 144 (74-70). Cory Schneider finished with a 148 (77-71), while John Duckworth shot a 150 (76-74) and Adam Horton shot a 151 (81-70). Brant Dixon rounded out the Monarch scoring with a 153 (75-78).

Greensboro’s Rocky Manning (71-70), LaGrange’s Bennett Maki (70-71) and Washington & Lee’s Nathan James (73-68) each finished in a three-way tie for first with a 141.

Methodist’s next tournament is the Gordin Collegiate Classic on Sunday and Monday at Surfside Beach, S.C.
