Methodist’s Horton selected for USA vs. Japan Matches FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Recently-graduated Methodist men’s golf standout Adam Horton will have one final event to close out his collegiate career. Horton was selected recently to represent the United States in the upcoming 2005 Fuji Xerox USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championships. The event will be held on July 13-15 at the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif. Horton is the sixth Methodist men’s and women’s golfer to be selected for the prestigious event. Rob Pilewski was the first Monarch men’s golfer to play in the event in 1992, followed by Ryan Jenkins in 1994, Mike Adamson in 1997 and Chad Collins in both 2000 and 2001. Kelly Cap is the lone Lady Monarch to play in the event in 1995. Horton, from Chesapeake, Va., finished up his brilliant Monarch career in 2005 with a second straight USA South Athletic Conference individual championship and he was ranked third in the nation in scoring average at 73.30. Horton finished in the Top 20 in nine of Methodist’s 14 tournaments, including seven Top 10 finishes. In addition to his USA South title, Horton finished tied for second at the Greensboro Invitational, third at the Callaway Collegiate, fourth at the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate and tied for fifth at the Gordin Collegiate. In the NCAA Division III National Tournament, Horton finished tied for 22nd. Overall, Horton was a three-time Division III All-American at Methodist. |
