![]() Monarchs’ Horton gains victory, tie in first two rounds of USA vs. Japan matches PALO ALTO, Calif. – Former Methodist men’s golfer Adam Horton enjoyed successful rounds in the 2005 USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championships at the Stanford Golf Course. The three-time Monarch All-American recorded a victory in Wednesday’s doubles competition, and a draw in Thursday’s singles play as the United States took a 19-17 lead in the competition. In Wednesday’s opening round, Horton and playing partner Will Dodson defeated the Japanese team of Haruo Fujishima and Takamasa Yamamoto 139-143. Horton shot a 3-under-par 67 and recorded five birdies. He birdied the par-5 seventh hole, the par-3 eighth hole, the par-4 12th hole, the par-3 14th hole and the par-4 15th hole. In round two on Thursday, Horton fired a 71 to halve the match against Japan’s Ryoma Iwai. He overcame two bogeys on the front nine holes with two birdies on the par-4 13th and par-5 16th holes. Horton is the sixth player in the rich history of men’s golf at Methodist to participate in this prestigious event. Friday is the final round of the 30th USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championships at Stanford. |
