Nick Bova defeated Shunsuke Sonoda 68-77

TOKYO, JAPAN – Methodist graduate Nick Bova recently helped the United States to win the USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship in Tokyo. Bova lost his first two matches before winning the final round 68-77 over Shunsuke Sonoda. release

Eric Dugas tied for sixth at the PGA Club Professional National Championship
FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Former Methodist men's golfer, Eric Dugas, competed in the PGA Club Professional National Championship last weekend in Greensboro, Ga. A 2005 graduate, Dugas' tie for sixth place earned him a spot in the 2008 PGA Championship this August at Oakland Hills in Michigan. release

Golf Trophies Presented to President Hendricks

Women's head coach Vici Pate and men's head coach Steve Conley present trophies to Dr. Hendricks
FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Methodist women's golf team returned from Iowa this weekend while the men's golf team returned from Georgia, both with trophies to represent their success in the NCAA Division III Championship tournaments. Vici Pate, the women's head coach, presented the Naitonal Championship trophy to Methodist University President, Dr. M. Elton Hendricks. Steve Conley, men's head coach, presented the Fourth Place trophy as well. The trophies are on display in the President's office this week before being moved to the trophy cases in the March F. Riddle Center. release

BRASELTON, GA– The Methodist men's golf team finished in fourth place at the NCAA Championship Tournament with a final score of 1203 (311-298-291-303) at the Chateau Elan Resort. St. John's University (MN) took the team championship with an 1192. release

Methodist Men Move to Third at NCAA Championships

BRASELTON, GA– Through the first three rounds of the NCAA Championship Tournament, the Methodist men's golf team moved up two more spots to third place with a 900 (311-298-291) at the Chateau Elan Resort. St. John Fisher held on to the lead with an 893, but the Monarchs beat them by six in round three. release

Junior Matt Bova tied for 29th at 152 (76-76)
BRASELTON, GA– After two round at the NCAA Championship Tournament, the Methodist men are in fifth place amongst the 35 teams with a 609 (311-298) at the Chateau Elan Resort. Leading the field is St. John Fisher at 596. After playing the Woodlands Course on Tuesday, the Monarchs played the Chateau Course on Wednesday, both par 71 courses. release

BRASELTON, GA– The Methodist men's golf team teed off in round one of the NCAA Championships on Tuesday. The Monarchs tied for ninth amongst the 35 teams with a 311 at the Chateau Elan Resort. Leading the field is the University of La Verne with a 291. release

Bova to Represent United States In Match Versus Japan
Bova one of 12 players selected to compete in Japan July 16-18
NORMAN, Okla. — The 12-member team has been selected for the 2008 Fuji Xerox USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship. The team - which consists of eight men and four women collegiate players - will be coached by Mike Morrow of Kent State and Barry’s Jimmy Stobs. The 33rd annual competition will be held July 16-18 at Tokyo Golf Club. release

STONE MOUNTAIN, GA– The Monarchs won their fifth straight tournament this spring with a 13 stroke lead over second place Oglethorpe University. Methodist finished at 582 (292-290) while Oglethorpe was second at 595 (300-295) and Huntingdon finished third at 598 (295-303). release

Junior Matt Bova won the tournament in a two hole playoff
PINE MOUNTAIN, GA – The Monarchs were eight strokes behind after the first round at the Callaway Invitational, but shaved 21 strokes off on their own score from round one to round two to come from behind and win the 16 team tournament with a score of 597 (309-288). release

Methodist Wins Johnny Palmer Memorial Golf Tournament

Senior Nick Bova earns fourth career win
BADIN LAKE, NC– The Methodist University men's golf team opened the 2008 spring season on a good note with their first win of the new year. The team finished ahead of 11 other teams at Old North State Golf Club as part of the Johnny Palmer Memorial Golf Tournament. The Monarchs won with a score of 606 (299-307), ten strokes ahead of second place Newberry with a 616 (305-311). Barton finished third at 621 (309-312). release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The USA South Conference office released the preseason polls today for the remaining spring sports.  Baseball was released earlier this month.  The polls are based on votes from each conference member's head coach without voting for themselves. release

GAINESVILLE, GA – The Monarchs finished in third place at Royal Lakes Country Club on Tuesday with a 582 (286-296). Guilford won the tournament with a 570 while Oglethorpe finished in second at 572. release

Nick Bova wins his third collegiate tournament by shooting nine under par
GREENSBORO, NC – The Monarchs won their first tournament of the year on Tuesday with a fifteen stroke lead over second place Guilford at the Greensboro Invitational. The team competed at Bryan Park in Greensboro on the par 72 course. Methodist rode a nine stroke lead after day one to finish the tournament with a 579 (287-292). release

SENECA, SC – The Methodist men's golf team teed off Monday in their first tournament of the year at the Jack Shadwick Invitational. The Monarchs placed second amongst the 19 teams with a score of 587 (293-294), eleven strokes behind first place finisher North Greenville University with a 576. release
