Monarchs currently second after first round of the Pine Needles Invitational Schneider has the top Methodist score with a 73 SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – The Methodist Monarch men’s golf team opened its 2006 season on Monday with a strong showing in the first round of the Pine Needles Invitational at Pine Needles Lodge. After the first round, Methodist is in a solid second place with a 300 on the Par-71, 7,000-yard course. The Monarchs, ranked second nationally in Division III, trail host Pfeiffer by three strokes and hold a four-stroke lead over third place Berry and the Pfeiffer “B” squad. Greensboro is fifth with a 307, followed by Guilford and Texas Wesleyan each at 309, Oglethorpe at 312, Wesley at 313 and Emory at 318. Overall, there are 18 teams in the tournament field. Individually, Cory Schneider had the top Methodist score with a two-over par 73, while Adam Horton and Matt Bova both shot a four-over 75. In addition, Brian Gussis shot a six-over 77 and Nick Bova shot a nine-over 80. The second and final round is set for Tuesday. |
