After
directing the Methodist Monarchs to nine NCAA Division III national
championships in 14 years, Steve Conley begins his 22nd campaign
as head coach of the Methodist College men's golf team. He also
serves Methodist as an assistant professor and assistant director
of Methodist's nationally-renowned Professional Golf Management
program.
The Monarchs have finished in the
nation's top five every season but one since Conley came onto
the scene in 1987. Highlighting the success are national championships
in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999,
plus three national runner-up finishes, eight third-place finishes
and three fourth and fifth-place finishes at the NCAA Division
III National Tournament.
Conley has been named Coach of
the Year in both Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and
the USA South Athletic Conference 16 times, NCAA Division III
Region III Coach of the Year 13 times, and a NCAA Division III
National Coach of the Year four times. He has produced nine
individual national champions, 63 All-Americans, and 11 Academic
All-Americans.
In addition, 18 of the Monarchs' 26 conference championships
have come under Conley's tenure.
During the summer of 1998, Conley represented his country as
the USA coach for the USA/Japan Matches in Tochigi-Ken, Japan.
The 1986 Murray State graduate earned his Bachelor of Science
degree in physical education with honors. While at MSU, Conley
earned Academic All-American status and notched two collegiate
tournament victories. He later earned a master's degree in education with a concentration in
physical education from Campbell in 1991.
Conley is an active member of the Golf Coaches Association of
America (GCAA) and the Professional Golfers' Association of
America (PGA) and recently inducted into the GCAA Hall of Fame in
January of 2007. |
