Schneider, Monarchs win third straight Tom O’Briant Memorial

GREENSBORO, N.C. –
Medalist Cory Schneider came to the forefront on Tuesday as he helped lead the Methodist Monarch men’s golf team to a record-tying third straight team title in the 18th annual Tom O’Briant Memorial Tournament at the Cardinal Golf and Country Club. Schneider shot a 1-under par 69 in Tuesday’s final round to finish an even-par 140.

He outdistanced Oglethorpe’s Joe Green and Huntingdon’s Jacob Collinsworth by two strokes and helped the Monarchs to a two-round score of 581.

Methodist, ranked second in the season’s first Division III Top 25 poll, finished four strokes ahead of Oglethorpe and six strokes ahead of Huntingdon. Guilford finished fourth with a 591, followed by Emory with a 593 in the 18-team field.

Sophomore John Duckworth shot his second straight 73 on Tuesday to finish tied for 12th with a 146 for Methodist, while Adam Horton (71-77) and Nick Bova (73-75) both finished tied for 19th with a 148. Brant Dixon rounded out the Methodist scoring by finishing tied for 29th with a 150 (74-76).

Methodist’s next fall tournament is the Greensboro Invitational on Oct. 3-4.
