![]() Methodist picked first in USA South preseason men’s golf poll Monarchs open 2006 season at the Pine Needles Invitational FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The USA South Athletic Conference released its 2006 preseason poll for men’s golf on Wednesday, and the Methodist Monarchs were selected as the preseason favorite in the seven-team race. Methodist, the second-ranked team in the nation in Division III, received 36 points and six first-place votes, out-distancing second place Greensboro with 31 points and one first-place vote. Rounding out the poll was Christopher Newport (26), Averett (21), Ferrum (16), Shenandoah (11) and North Carolina Wesleyan (six). Methodist, which has won three straight USA South championships and 23 overall, returns a strong contingent for veteran head coach Steve Conley’s 19th season with the Monarchs. Headlining the team is three-time All-American and two-time USA South champion Adam Horton, plus returning All-American Nick Bova. Methodist kicks off the 2006 season at the Pine Needles Invitational in Southern Pines, N.C., on Feb. 27-28. |
