October 22, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The USA South has announced their athletes of the week. The conference gives an award for Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for each sport active during the week. Sean Brennan has been named the USA South Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. The senior goalkeeper from Chesterfield, Virginia earned a shutout win over Randolph-Macon in the Monarchs only action last week. Brennan made seven saves as Methodist was victorious, 2-0. The men's soccer team will host Greensboro on Thursday at 3 pm. Whitney Roberson has been named the USA South Women's Soccer Player of the Week. The Kitty Hawk, North Carolina sophomore forward scored two goals in a 1-1 week for the Monarchs. In a 2-1 loss to Rhodes, Roberson was held scoreless but managed two shots. In a 2-0 win over regionally-ranked, USA South foe Christopher Newport, Roberson scored the only two goals of the game to help the Monarchs remain undefeated in conference play. The women's soccer team will host Greensboro on Wednesday at 3 pm in their final regular season home game. Diane Doroftei has been named the USA South Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week. The junior from Jupiter, Florida, in her first year of collegiate running, helped the Monarchs win the Methodist 5K on October 10. Doroftei finished third overall out of 20 competitors in a time of 22:59. The cross country team will travel to the USA South Conference Championships on Saturday.
