losing
streak
is
history
for the
Methodist
Monarch
men’s
soccer
team.
Now,
it’s
time to
start a
new
streak.
The
Monarchs
made it
two
straight
victories
on
Wednesday
with a
convincing
4-0
victory
over
visiting
Averett
in
Methodist’s
2005 USA
South
Athletic
Conference
opener
at
Monarch
Soccerplex.
Methodist
improves
to 2-5-1
overall,
and,
more
importantly,
1-0 in
the USA
South.
Sophomore
midfielder
Dustin
Breckenridge
provided
the
spark
for
Methodist
with two
goals.
He gave
the
Monarchs
a 1-0
lead in
the 24th
minute
with a
goal off
a
deflection
by
Cougar
goalkeeper
Gilchrist
Callahan.
Breckenridge
then
finished
off the
Monarch
scoring
with a
goal in
the 61st
minute
off an
assist
by
Andrew
Neff.
Methodist
also had
a goal
by Adam
Sippy in
the 55th
minute
off an
assist
by Gregg
Cohen,
and then
Jimmy
Izaguirre
scored
on a
penalty
kick in
the 60th
minute.
Monarch
goalkeeper
Jeremy
Belnap
recorded
Methodist’s
first
shutout
of the
season
with one
save.
Methodist
