Monarchs Win 2-0 at Averett
Monteiro and Komons score with assists from Cunningham

DANVILLE, VA-  The Monarchs took a 1-0 lead against Averett in the 21st minute and the defense prevailed to earn the team's ninth consecutive win.  Averett was Methodist's first conference opponent this season.  The Monarchs move to 9-1 on the season and 1-0 in the USA South while Averett falls to 1-4 and 0-1 in the conference.

Sophomore Brandon Cunningham assisted Evan Monteiro's first goal of the game midway through the first half.  The score remained 1-0 at half before junior CJ Komons finished another Cunningham assist in the 66th minute.  The Monarchs held a distinct shot advantage 31-4 throughout the game, but the Averett goalkeeper Ben Phelps came up big with 16 saves for the Cougars.

Methodist goalkeeper Jeremy Belnap finished with 2 saves.

The Monarchs will have almost a week without competition before traveling to Lynchburg on Tuesday to play at 4 pm.
