Monarchs Learn Lesson During 3-3 Exhibition With Barton
Breckenridge scores two after being down 3-0

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Methodist Monarchs men's soccer team had a chance to test their skills in an exhibition against Barton College on Thursday.  Barton jumped out to a 2-0 lead as the Monarchs were caught on their heels.  They began to settle down, gaining possession and creating chances.  Barton scored again twenty minutes into the first half to go up 3-0, but Methodist started to take control 25 minutes into the match.

Sophomore Max Adler and freshman Bret Brennan took hold of the midfield allowing the Monarchs to gain more opportunities to score.  Finally the Monarchs broke through in the 30th minute when Dustin Breckenridge was sent through the defense on a breakaway to make the score 3-1 at half.

In the second half the Monarchs had plenty of chances before freshman Ime Umoh nutmegged the Barton goalkeeper to finish a strong run.  With less than a minute left in the game and Methodist still down by one, the Monarchs earned a cornerkick.  The corner went long, but the ball was crossed back in for Breckenridge to score his second goal and finish the game tied 3-3.

The Methodist Monarchs will play another exhibition game Sunday at home at 3 p.m. before opening their regular season at the Christopher Newport Classic on Sept. 1.
