Monarchs fall 2-0 at Christopher Newport in regular season finale

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –
In what has been a frustrating season, the Methodist Monarch men’s soccer team looked to finish on high note on Sunday at USA South Athletic Conference rival Christopher Newport. However, the home-standing Captains scored twice in the second half for a 2-0 victory at Captains Field.

Methodist concludes the 2005 regular season 6-11-1 overall and 3-3 in the USA South. The Monarchs finished fourth in the USA South.

After a scoreless first half, Christopher Newport broke the ice in the second half with the game’s first point. Kyle Martin scored the goal in the 62nd minute off an assist by Michael Caro. Clinging to a 1-0 lead, the Captains added some insurance in the 85th minute when Caro scored off an assist by Jimmy Hash.

Methodist goalkeeper Jeremy Belnap recorded two saves in the defeat, while Captain goalkeeper Jonathan Anderson recorded two saves.

Methodist plays host to Ferrum on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the 2005 USA South Athletic Conference Tournament at Monarch Soccerplex.
