In what
has been
a
frustrating
season,
the
Methodist
Monarch
men’s
soccer
team
looked
to
finish
on high
note on
Sunday
at USA
South
Athletic
Conference
rival
Christopher
Newport.
However,
the
home-standing
Captains
scored
twice in
the
second
half for
a 2-0
victory
at
Captains
Field.
Methodist
concludes
the 2005
regular
season
6-11-1
overall
and 3-3
in the
USA
South.
The
Monarchs
finished
fourth
in the
USA
South.
After a
scoreless
first
half,
Christopher
Newport
broke
the ice
in the
second
half
with the
game’s
first
point.
Kyle
Martin
scored
the goal
in the
62nd
minute
off an
assist
by
Michael
Caro.
Clinging
to a 1-0
lead,
the
Captains
added
some
insurance
in the
85th
minute
when
Caro
scored
off an
assist
by Jimmy
Hash.
Methodist
goalkeeper
Jeremy
Belnap
recorded
two
saves in
the
defeat,
while
Captain
goalkeeper
Jonathan
Anderson
recorded
two
saves.
Methodist
plays
host to
Ferrum
on
Tuesday
at 2:30
p.m. in
the
quarterfinals
of the
2005 USA
South
Athletic
Conference
Tournament
at
Monarch
Soccerplex.
