Christopher Newport Defeats Methodist 1-0
Senior C.J. Komons' takes free kick in final seconds in a chance to tie the game

NEWPORT NEWS, VA-  The Monarchs traveled to Christopher Newport University on Saturday in USA South play. The Captains scored first and the Monarchs could not find the tying goal, giving Christopher Newport the 1-0 win. Methodist moves to 7-5 on the year and 1-2 in the conference while Christopher Newport is 8-4 overall and 4-0 in the USA South.

The Captains scored in the 24th minute on a 20-yard free kick from Kenny Huttman. The Monarchs continued pressing throughout the final 66 minutes in an attempt to even the score, but the Captains' defense held strong. With just eight seconds left to play, Methodist senior Andy White was fouled and the clock stopped for the referee to issue a yellow card to Christopher Newport. Senior C.J. Komons stepped up to take the free kick and found junior Brock Aaron, but the ball bounched off the right post before the Captains were able to clear the ball and preserve the win.

The Captains out shot Methodist 12-6. Methodist goalkeeper Sean Brennan made six saves on the day.

The Monarchs will host Lynchburg Tuesday at 4 pm.
