4-0 in
Adidas/Methodist
Classic
FAYETTEVILLE,
N.C. –
The
Methodist
Monarchs
knew
Sunday’s
Adidas/Methodist
Classic
showdown
against
17th-ranked
Emory
would be
a tough
task.
However,
for
two-thirds
of the
contest,
Methodist
played
the
talented
Eagles
toe-to-toe.
But
three
second-half
goals
proved
too much
as Emory
rolled
to a 4-0
victory
at
Monarch
Soccerplex.
The
defeat
was the
third
straight
for
Methodist,
now
0-3-1
overall
on the
season.
Emory
took a
1-0 lead
in the
first
half on
Karl
Dix’s
goal in
the 20th
minute.
However,
the
Eagles
and
goalkeeper
Keith
Meehan
fended
off
numerous
Monarch
attacks
as
Meehan
recorded
five
saves in
tight
situations.
After
that,
Dix and
fellow
forward
Alex
Grigalunas
took
control.
Grigalunas
scored
the
first of
his two
goals in
the 64th
minute
off a
corner
kick by
Dix, who
30
seconds
later
scored
on a
breakaway
off an
assist
by
Matthew
Kaufman.
Grigalunas
finished
the
Emory
scoring
with a
header
off a
crossing
pass
from
Dix.
Methodist
opens
