October 30, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Monarchs knocked off Ferrum for the second time in three days to advance to the semifinals of the USA South Men's Soccer Tournament. The Monarchs move to 12-6-1 overall while Ferrum finishes 4-12-1. The first 29 minutes of the game passed scoreless before senior Dustin Breckenridge gained possession in the eighteen yard box. The Ferrum goalkeeper Chris Taylor came out to cut off the shot, but Breckenridge flicked it to junior Jamie Gunderson who scored on the open goal for the 1-0 lead. Just five minutes later, Gunderson took a corner kick to find Breckenridge who headed towards the goal for junior Mike DeMara to finish with the goal. Both teams had opportunities in the second half, but Methodist held on for the 2-0 win with senior Sean Brennan earning the shutout in goal with three saves. Taylor had nine saves for Ferrum. With the win, Methodist advances to the semifinals on Friday at N.C. Wesleyan against Christopher Newport at 11:30 am.
