October 25, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Monarchs scored two goals in the first thirteen minutes of the game, but Greensboro tied it up in the second half. The game went into two overtime periods, with neither team able to break the tie. With the tie, the Monarchs move to 10-6-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the USA South while Greensboro moves to 10-4-3 overall and 3-2-1 in the conference. The game started with a steady rain and the Monarchs took advantage of it early. Junior Evan Monteiro slid one through to freshman Murray Williamson who shot from the top of the eighteen yard box to hit the lower left hand corner of the goal giving Methodist a 1-0 lead in the second minute of play. Just ten minutes later, senior C.J. Komons cross the ball from the right side to find senior Dustin Breckenridge to score the second goal on a header. Methodist held a 2-0 lead at halftime, but Greensboro came out battling in the second half. The referee called a foul on Methodist just inside the penalty area allowing Greensboro's Robert Fricke to close the margin to one in the 55th minute. Grayson Leonard entered the game for the Pride at the 62:14 mark and less than two minutes later Fricke cross the ball for Leonard to head it in near post tying the game at two. Both teams had opportunities late in the half, but the second half ended 2-2. The teams played two ten minute overtimes, where Greensboro out shot Methodist 4-2, but neither team could score. Methodist goalkeeper Sean Brennan finished with eight saves while Greensboro's Kurt Gardiner had seven stops in goal. Methodist will finish the regular season on Saturday hosting Ferrum at 3 pm.
