Just
when it
looked
like the
Methodist
Monarch
men’s
soccer
team
would
lose its
2005
season
opener,
Andy
White
came to
the
rescue.
The
freshman
sensation
got his
collegiate
career
off to a
flying
start
with a
goal in
the
final
seconds
of the
game as
Methodist
tied
Guilford
2-2 on
Saturday
at the
North
Carolina
Wesleyan
Invitational.
Guilford
clinged
to a 2-1
lead in
the
final
minute
when
White
stole a
pass. He
then
beat
Quaker
keeper
Zane
Campbell
one-on-one
for the
tying
score
with 20
seconds
remaining
in the
contest.
It was
one of
two
goals
scored
on the
afternoon
for
White.
He gave
the
Monarchs
an early
1-0 lead
with an
unassisted
goal in
the 13th
minute.
However,
Guilford’s
Andres
Miranda
was
equal to
the
task. He
scored
the
tying
goal in
the 52nd
minute,
and then
gave the
Quakers
a 2-1
lead
with a
goal in
the 74th
minute.
Methodist
goalkeeper
Jeremy
Belnap
recorded
two
saves in
his
first
collegiate
start.
Methodist
plays
Penn
State-Altoona
in the
North
Carolina
Wesleyan
Invitational
on
Sunday
