Monarchs open 2005 men’s soccer season with 2-2 tie against Guilford at N.C. Wesleyan Invitational

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. –
Just when it looked like the Methodist Monarch men’s soccer team would lose its 2005 season opener, Andy White came to the rescue.

The freshman sensation got his collegiate career off to a flying start with a goal in the final seconds of the game as Methodist tied Guilford 2-2 on Saturday at the North Carolina Wesleyan Invitational.

Guilford clinged to a 2-1 lead in the final minute when White stole a pass. He then beat Quaker keeper Zane Campbell one-on-one for the tying score with 20 seconds remaining in the contest. It was one of two goals scored on the afternoon for White. He gave the Monarchs an early 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal in the 13th minute.

However, Guilford’s Andres Miranda was equal to the task. He scored the tying goal in the 52nd minute, and then gave the Quakers a 2-1 lead with a goal in the 74th minute.

Methodist goalkeeper Jeremy Belnap recorded two saves in his first collegiate start.
