Monarch
offense
stymied
in 3-0
defeat

Hampden-Sydney
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY,

It was
another
case of
offensive
bad luck
for the
Methodist
Monarch
men’s
soccer
team on
Wednesday
as the
Monarchs
fell 3-0
at
Hampden-Sydney
in a
non-conference
clash.
The
defeat
drops
Methodist
to 3-7-1
overall.
The
score
was
deceiving
considering
Methodist
out-shot
Hampden-Sydney
15-6 and
had
seven
shots on
goal to
the
Tigers’
six.
However,
Hampden-Sydney
goalkeeper
Pierce
Buckingham
was the
Monarchs’
nemesis
with
seven
saves.
Hampden-Sydney
took a
1-0 lead
in the
eighth
minute
as Bobby
Hillman
scored
off an
assist
by
Robert
Baybutt.
With the
1-0 lead
at
halftime,
the
Tigers
scored
their
two
second
half
goals on
penalty
kicks.
Grant
Dickens
scored
both –
the
first in
the 48th
minute
and the
second
in the
70th
minute.
Methodist
goalkeeper
Chris
Dykstra
recorded
two
saves
for the
Monarchs.
Methodist
returns
to USA
South
Athletic
Conference
action
on
Saturday,
traveling
to
Shenandoah
for a 1
p.m.
game.
