Monarchs Come From Behind to Win in Double Overtime
Mike Demara scores game-winning goal

NEWPORT NEWS, VA-  Methodist was looking for their first win and found it in the 103rd minute against the Johnson & Wales Wildcats.  The Monarchs finished the weekend 1-1 at the Christopher Newport Classic.

The Wildcats started the scoring in the 22nd minute before freshman Ime Umoh tied it in the 26th minute for his first intercollegiate goal. At the end of regulation the Monarchs had outshot Johnson & Wales 21 to 5 but the score was still tied.  The first overtime period came and went with each side taking a shot but unable to finish.

The second overtime period kicked off and after only two minutes in, sophomore Mike DeMara was able to score to give the Monarchs their first win of the 2006 season.  Freshmen Dan Ohmott and Edgar Gutierrez split time in the goal.  Gutierrez finished with two saves while Johnson & Wales goalkeeper Brenton Blanchard also finished with two saves.

The Monarchs will play their first home game on Saturday versus Warren Wilson at 2 pm to open the Methodist Innkeeper Classic.
