Monarchs’ season concludes with 1-0 defeat at N.C. Wesleyan in USA South semifinals
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The 2005 men’s soccer season came to an end for the Methodist Monarchs on Friday as they dropped a 1-0 decision at North Carolina Wesleyan in the semifinals of the 2005 USA South Athletic Conference Tournament. The defeat concludes the Monarch season at 7-12-1 overall. release

Monarchs place seven on All-USA South for men’s soccer
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The USA South Athletic Conference released its 2005 All-Conference team for men’s soccer on Wednesday, and the Methodist Monarchs placed seven representatives on the squad. Midfielder Adam Sippy and goalkeeper Jeremy Belnap were both second team selections, while forward Andy White, midfielders Dustin Breckenridge and Andrew Neff and defenders Gregg Cohen and Jimmy Izaguirre were honorable mention selections. This marks the third time on the All-USA South team for Neff, while Sippy is on the squad for the second straight season. Belnap, White, Breckenridge, Cohen and Izaguirre were each selected for the first time. release

Monarchs edge Ferrum 2-1, advance to USA South Tournament semifinals
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Survival of the fittest was the best description of Tuesday’s Methodist-Ferrum USA South Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament quarterfinals. And it was Methodist that survived and advanced. Spearheaded by a late goal by Andy White, the Monarchs rallied for a 2-1 victory at the Monarch Soccerplex. The victory improves Methodist to 7-11-1 overall, and the Monarchs advance to the USA South Tournament semifinals for the fourth time in the last five years. release

Monarchs fall 2-0 at Christopher Newport in regular season finale
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – In what has been a frustrating season, the Methodist Monarch men’s soccer team looked to finish on high note on Sunday at USA South Athletic Conference rival Christopher Newport. However, the home-standing Captains scored twice in the second half for a 2-0 victory at Captains Field. Methodist concludes the 2005 regular season 6-11-1 overall and 3-3 in the USA South. Sippy scores twice as Monarchs blank Ferrum 3-0 on Senior Day
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist Monarch men’s soccer team sent their seniors out in style with a 3-0 victory over Ferrum at Monarch Soccerplex. Methodist seniors Adam Sippy, Andrew Neff, Kevin Gray, Marlon Pinnock and Gregg Cohen played their final games at Monarch Soccerplex. In turn, the Monarchs ended a three-game losing streak to improve to 6-10-1 and 3-2 in the USA South Athletic Conference. release

Monarchs drop 1-0 double-overtime heartbreaker against rival Greensboro
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The long-standing men’s soccer rivalry between Methodist and Greensboro was renewed on Tuesday, and it wasn’t a happy renewal for Methodist. The Monarchs dropped a tough 1-0 heartbreaker in double-overtime against Pride in a battle for second place in the USA South Athletic Conference at Monarch Soccerplex. The defeat drops Methodist to 5-10-1 overall and 2-2 in the USA South. release

Monarchs drop 3-0 decision at North Carolina Wesleyan
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – First place in the USA South Athletic Conference was on the line on Sunday as the Methodist Monarch men’s soccer team played at rival North Carolina Wesleyan. However, the Monarchs came up on the short end of it, dropping a 3-0 decision to North Carolina Wesleyan. Methodist falls to 5-9-1 overall and 2-1 in the USA South. release

Second Half surge carries Randolph-Macon past Monarchs 3-1
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – After a sterling first half on Thursday, the Methodist Monarch men’s soccer team couldn’t overcome the sting of the Yellow Jackets from Randolph-Macon in the second half. Paced by all three goals in the second half, Randolph-Macon overtook the Monarchs 3-1 at Monarch Soccerplex. The defeat drops Methodist to 5-8-1 overall. release

First half goal gives Methodist 1-0 victory over Francis Marion
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist Monarch men’s soccer team appears to be picking up steam at the right time in the 2005 season. After knocking off Shenandoah on Saturday, the Monarchs returned home on Tuesday and won a 1-0 thriller over visiting NCAA Division II Francis Marion at Monarch SoccerPlex. Methodist has now won two straight and three of its last four. The Monarchs improved to 5-7-1 overall. release

Penalty kick propels Methodist to 2-1 USA South victory at Shenandoah
WINCHESTER, Va. – Aiming to keep some needed momentum in the race for the USA South Athletic Conference men’s soccer championship, the Methodist Monarchs picked up their first road victory of the 2005 season on Saturday with a thrilling 2-1 victory at Shenandoah. The victory lifts Methodist to 4-7-1 overall, but also 2-0 in the USA South. release

Monarch offense stymied in 3-0 defeat at Hampden-Sydney
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – It was another case of offensive bad luck for the Methodist Monarch men’s soccer team on Wednesday as the Monarchs fell 3-0 at Hampden-Sydney in a non-conference clash. The defeat drops Methodist to 3-7-1 overall. The score was deceiving considering Methodist out-shot Hampden-Sydney 15-6 and had seven shots on goal to the Tigers’ six. release

Methodist’s White, Gregory sweep weekly USA South men’s soccer honors
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The USA South Athletic Conference issued its weekly honors for men’s soccer on Monday, and the Methodist Monarchs swept both honors. Andy White was selected USA South Player of the Week, while Sean Gregory was honored as USA South Rookie of the Week. It marks the first time this 2005 season that Methodist has been represented in the USA South weekly honors for men’s soccer. release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The offensive struggles felt by the Methodist Monarch men’s soccer team were extinguished on Thursday as the Monarchs routed visiting Chowan 11-0 at Monarch Soccerplex. After starting the season 0-5-1, Methodist has now won three of its last four games, and the Monarchs have now won 10 straight head-to-head against former USA South Athletic Conference rival Chowan (1-9). release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The five-game losing streak is history for the Methodist Monarch men’s soccer team. Now, it’s time to start a new streak. The Monarchs made it two straight victories on Wednesday with a convincing 4-0 victory over visiting Averett in Methodist’s 2005 USA South Athletic Conference opener at Monarch Soccerplex. Freshmen shine as Monarchs claim first victory of 2005 season
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Methodist men’s soccer coach Justin Terranova knew he would depend on a few freshmen this 2005 season, and on Saturday, two of those freshmen came to the forefront. With Evan Monteiro scoring twice and Sean Gregory adding another goal, the Monarchs broke through for their first victory of the season with a 4-2 victory over visiting Piedmont at Monarch Soccerplex. Monarchs come up short against neighboring rival UNC-Pembroke 3-1
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The area men’s soccer rivalry between Methodist and UNC-Pembroke was renewed on Thursday with great anticipation on both sides. The home standing Monarchs, however, came up on the short end of the battle, falling 3-1 to UNC-Pembroke. Methodist is now 0-5-1 overall on the 2005 season. In the last four meetings between the two teams, the visiting team has prevailed in each game. release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist Monarchs knew Sunday’s Adidas/Methodist Classic showdown against 17th-ranked Emory would be a tough task. However, for two-thirds of the contest, Methodist played the talented Eagles toe-to-toe. But three second-half goals proved too much as Emory rolled to a 4-0 victory at Monarch Soccerplex. release

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Just when it looked like the Methodist Monarch men’s soccer team would lose its 2005 season opener, Andy White came to the rescue. The freshman sensation got his collegiate career off to a flying start with a goal in the final seconds of the game as Methodist tied Guilford 2-2 on Saturday at the North Carolina Wesleyan Invitational. release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The USA South Athletic Conference released its 2005 preseason men’s soccer poll on Wednesday, and the Methodist Monarchs were picked third in the seven-team race. Methodist received 25 points in the poll taken by the head men’s soccer coaches in the USA South. release

Two tournaments highlight 2005 Methodist men's soccer schedule
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Methodist men's head soccer coach Justin Terranova released his 2005 schedule on Tuesday, and it's yet another schedule full of challenges for the season. Highlighting the Monarchs' schedule is the North Carolina Wesleyan Invitational on Sept. 3-4 in which Methodist plays Penn State-Altoona and Guilford, followed by the Methodist/Adidas Classic on Sept. 10-11 as Methodist plays host to Eastern Mennonite and Emory. The Monarchs also play host to regional NCAA Division II rivals UNC-Pembroke and Francis Marion. Methodist is coming off an 11-6-2 season in 2004 in which it advanced to the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament championship game. Click here for the 2005 men's soccer schedule.
