Men's Soccer Falls to Christopher Newport 5-0
Monarchs finish 14-5-1 in the 2006 season
NEWPORT NEWS, VA-  The Methodist men's soccer team traveled to Christopher Newport University for the semifinals of the USA South Conference Tournament on Friday night.  The Monarchs struggled to create offense and lost 5-0. The Monarchs conclude the 2006 season 14-5-1 overall.  Christopher Newport will advance to the championship match against Greensboro College.  release

Seven Monarchs Selected USA South All-Conference
Fourth seeded Monarchs dominate honorable mention list
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- 
The USA South has released their All-Conference teams for the 2006 season.  The awards are based on their regular season play and voted on by the conference coaches.  The Monarchs finished the regular season seeded fourth and named seven players as All-Conference honorable mentions.  release

Monarchs Advance to USA South Tournament Semifinals
Sophomore Brandon Cunningham scores game-winning goal in 85th minute
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Methodist men's soccer team hosted the Shenandoah Hornets in the first round of the USA South Tournament on Tuesday.  With no score at halftime, the Monarchs finished in the second half to defeat the Hornets 2-1.  The Monarchs move to 14-4-1 overall while Shenandoah concludes their season at 4-11-2.  release

Senior Chris MacDonald scores eighth career goal
FERRUM, VA-  The Methodist men's soccer team traveled to Ferrum on Sunday to finish their regular season.  The Monarchs won the game 2-1 to move to 13-4-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the USA South while Ferrum falls to 4-14 overall and 1-5 in the conference.  release

Sophomore Evan Monteiro had 4 shots in the loss
GREENSBORO, NC-  The Monarchs out shot the Pride 14-10, but Greensboro was able to finish and win the game 1-0.  The Monarchs move to 12-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the USA South while Greensboro moves to 8-8-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the conference.  release

LYNCHBURG, VA-  The Monarchs went into halftime leading 1-0, but Randolph-Macon came back to score three in the second and earn the win.  The Monarchs move to 12-3-1 overall while Randolph-Macon improves to 6-9 overall.  release

The USA South has announced their athletes of the week for all fall sports.  The conference gives an award for Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for each sport active during the week.  release

Seniors Bid Farewell With 1-0 Win Versus Shenandoah
Freshman Ime Umoh scores the game-winning goal in the 52nd minute
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The four Monarch seniors Jeremy Belnap, Tyler Bucheister, Jimmy Izaguirre, and Chris MacDonald were honored for their careers at Methodist as they played their final regular season home game at the Monarch Soccerplex Saturday.  The Monarchs win over Shenandoah improved their record to 12-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the USA South while Shenandoah falls to 0-9-2 and 0-3-1 in the conference.  release

Andy White and Chris MacDonald score for Methodist
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Monarchs took a step out of conference play to face the Seahawks of St. Mary's College of Maryland.  Methodist did not waste any time getting on the board with the eventual game-winner in the 6th minute.  Methodist moves to 11-2-1 overall and St. Mary's falls to 4-7.  release

Methodist Battles to Tie Nationally Ranked NC Wesleyan 2-2
Desmond Keane scores his second goal of the day to send the game into overtime
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Monarchs went into the match against North Carolina Wesleyan knowing they needed to come back from a disappointing loss to Christopher Newport on Saturday.  Methodist maintained their composure and took the Bishops to double overtime before ending in a 2-2 tie.  Methodist moves to 10-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the USA South Conference.  NC Wesleyan moves to 12-0-1 and 4-0-1 in the conference.  release

Captains end Monarchs' 10 game winning streak
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Monarchs knew they would have to fight for a conference championship, but the referees put a stop to it handing out eight cards in the game.  The Captains were able to put a stop to the Monarchs 10 game winning streak that started September 3rd.  Methodist falls to 10-2 overall and 1-1 in the USA South while Christopher Newport moves to 9-4 overall and 4-0 in the conference.  release

Phillip Clause scores both for the win
MURFREESBORO, NC-  Lynchburg dominated the game with 21 shots to Methodist's 7, but the Monarchs' efficiency helped them come out with the 2-0 win.  Lynchburg is ranked 9th in the South region while the Monarchs are ranked 6th.  The Monarchs move to 10-1 on the season while Lynchburg falls to 5-4-2.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Methodist College men's soccer team has been ranked 6th in the South Region for Division III by NSCAA/adidas.  The team improves from their 7th place ranking last week and has moved up each week since the beginning of September.  release

DANVILLE, VA-  The Monarchs took a 1-0 lead against Averett in the 21st minute and the defense prevailed to earn the team's ninth consecutive win.  Averett was Methodist's first conference opponent this season.  The Monarchs move to 9-1 on the season and 1-0 in the USA South while Averett falls to 1-4 and 0-1 in the conference.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Methodist College men's soccer team has been ranked 7th in the South Region for Division III by NSCAA/adidas.  The team improves from their 8th place ranking last week.  The last time the Monarchs were ranked seventh in the region was in 2004.  release

Men's Soccer Moves to 8-1 After 7-0 Win Versus LaGrange
MacDonald and Brumbaugh both score two goals
DEMOREST, GA-  Two minutes into the first half, freshman David Giunti scored the eventual game-winning goal off of an assist from senior Chris MacDonald.  The scoring continued until the Monarchs closed things off with a 7-0 win over LaGrange.  Methodist moves to 8-1 on the season while LaGrange falls to 1-5.  release

Bret Brennan, Brock Aaron and Chris MacDonald scored in the first half for the win
DEMOREST, GA-  The Monarchs started early with a 3-0 lead in the first half against the Piedmont Lions.  The Lions came back in the second to score two, but the Monarchs held on for the 3-2 win.  Methodist moves to 7-1 on the season while Piedmont sits at 5-5.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Methodist College men's soccer team has been ranked 8th in the South Region for Division III by NSCAA/adidas.  The team improves from their 9th place ranking last week.  The Monarchs are quickly approaching the 7th place ranking they received in 2004.  release

MURFREESBORO, NC-  The men's soccer team traveled to Chown University to take on the Hawks and finished the day with a 3-0 win.  The Monarchs move to 6-1 on the season while Chowan falls to 0-6.  release

Monarchs Defeat Villa Julie to Move to 4-0 at Home
Two goals in first fifteen minutes enough to hold off Mustangs
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  Barely six minutes into the game sophomore Brandon Cunningham took a corner kick that went off senior Jimmy Izaguirre's head and rolled off senior Chris MacDonald's head to score for the Monarchs.  The play went back and forth before settling down and Methodist defeated Villa Julie 2-1.  The Monarchs improve to 5-1 while Villa Julie falls to 4-3 on the season.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  After losing their opening game to York College, the men's soccer team has gone on a 4-game winning streak over the past two weeks.  This afternoon the Monarchs took on Huntingdon College out of Alabama to win 3-0 during the first day of the Monarch invitational.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The final game of the Methodist Innkeeper started quickly when Southwestern sophomore David Lozano beat the Monarch defense to go up 1-0 in the 10th minute of the game.  Methodist gained their bearings and put together a solid 3-2 win over the Southwestern Pirates behind a hat trick from freshman Ime Umoh.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  It took the Monarchs some time to open the floodgates, but they didn't stop until they beat Warren Wilson 6-0 during the first day of the Methodist Innkeeper Classic.  Goals were scored by Jamie Gunderson, David Giunti, Evan Monteiro and Chris MacDonald.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Methodist College men's soccer team has been ranked 10th in the South Region for Division III by NSCAA/adidas.  The team has not been ranked since 2004 when they were ranked as high as number 7 in the region.  release

NEWPORT NEWS, VA-  It was not the way Coach Justin Terranova wanted to kick off the new year.  The Monarchs lost their first game of the season to York College of Pennsylvania 3-0 as part of the Christopher Newport Classic.  release

Coach Terranova has places big expectations on his team
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  Methodist head men's soccer coach, Justin Terranova broke his team into positions when taking a look at this season's team.  He has a full roster with players coming in to compete at every position.  The returning players had the opportunity to train in Brazil in August, but Terranova is anxious to have his entire team competing for the 2006 conference championship. release

Monarchs Learn Lesson During 3-3 Exhibition With Barton
Breckenridge scores two after being down 3-0
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Methodist Monarchs men's soccer team had a chance to test their skills in an exhibition against Barton College on Thursday.  Barton jumped out to a 2-0 lead as the Monarchs were caught on their heels.  They began to settle down, gaining possession and creating chances.  Barton scored again twenty minutes into the first half to go up 3-0, but Methodist started to take control 25 minutes into the match.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The USA South Conference office released the preseason polls today for cross country, soccer and volleyball.  The polls are based on votes from each conference member's head coach without voting for themselves.  release
