Late goal lifts Lynchburg past Methodist 2-1

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
Looking for its third straight victory on Saturday, the Methodist Monarch men’s soccer team took one the chin as Lynchburg scored a late goal to pull out a 2-1 victory at Monarch Soccerplex. The defeat drops Methodist to 2-6-1 overall on the 2005 season.

Methodist trailed 1-0 for most of the game until the 85th minute. That’s when the Monarchs’ Sean Gregory tied the game with a goal in the penalty box off a cross pass from Andrew Neff. However, Lynchburg took the lead a minute later when Drew Jamison scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on a direct kick.

The Hornets took a 1-0 lead early in the 13th minute on a breakaway goal by Casey Zambor. Methodist goalkeeper Jeremy Belnap recorded four saves, while his Lynchburg counterpart Corey Zimmerman recorded seven saves.

Methodist plays host to Chowan on Thursday at 4 p.m.
